Objectives of this role

  • Apply lean manufacturing principles in designing, specifying, and validating world-class manufacturing processes that achieve organizational goals

Summary

The Plant Manager for the Plastics Division is responsible for overseeing all operations within the plant, ensuring that production processes are efficient, cost-effective, and of the highest quality. This role involves leading a team of managers, including Maintenance and Production, to achieve production targets, maintain equipment, ensure safety standards, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the plastics manufacturing plant, ensuring production goals are met or exceeded.
    • Develop and implement strategies to optimize plant performance, including production scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow management.
    • Ensure alignment of production and maintenance teams to achieve operational efficiency and minimize downtime
  • Team Management:
    • Lead, coach, and develop the Maintenance and Production Managers to foster a high-performing and collaborative team environment.
    • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews with direct reports.
    • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement among all plant staff.
  • Production Management:
    • Monitor production processes to ensure that products are manufactured according to specifications, quality standards, and within budget.
    • Work closely with the Production Manager to identify and resolve bottlenecks or inefficiencies in the production line.
    • Implement best practices for lean manufacturing and process optimization to reduce waste and improve productivity.
  • Maintenance Oversight:
    • Oversee the maintenance of all plant equipment to ensure reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
    • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to develop preventive maintenance schedules and ensure timely repairs.
    • Evaluate and recommend equipment upgrades or replacements to improve plant operations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure that all plant operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Promote a safety-first culture by enforcing safety protocols and conducting regular safety audits.
    • Address any safety incidents or concerns promptly and effectively.
    • Ensure that housekeeping and good manufacturing practices are maintained to the highest standard at all times
  • Financial Management:
    • Prepare and manage the plant’s budget, including production costs, maintenance expenses, and capital expenditures.
    • Analyze financial reports to identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
    • Work with the Operations Director to set financial targets and ensure they are met.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the plant, focusing on enhancing product quality, reducing costs, and increasing operational efficiency.
    • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track plant performance and identify areas for improvement.
    • Encourage innovation and the adoption of new technologies and processes to keep the plant competitive.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:
    • Liaise with Sales and Marketing to ensure internal production requirements are communicated within the stipulated time frames
    • Work closely with other departments, including Human Resources, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, and Engineering, to ensure seamless operations and product delivery.
    • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and external partners to resolve issues and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Other:
    • Comply with, promote, communicate and guide EIGL's HR, HSE and any other policies, procedures, and standards to create an environment that is beneficial for all stakeholders and fosters the company's core values
    • Any other duties as required 

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • MSc. in Production Engineering or similar qualification
  • BSc. in Engineering, Manufacturing. MBA is an asset.
  • Minimium of ten (10) years’ experience in a Manufacturing industry
  • Experience in project management and commissioning and de-commissioning machinery
  • Extensive knowledge of trouble-shooting and maintenance of electrical systems
  • Knowledge of operating and capital budgets, producting planning 
  • Extensive experienced in preventative maintenance
  • Experience in a unionized environment 
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing production and maintenance teams.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment maintenance, and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead and motivate teams.
  • Proficiency in using manufacturing software and tools (e.g., ERP systems).
