Job Description – RADIOGRAPHER

 

 

Main Purpose of the Job

 

  • The Chief Radiographer is responsible for the general management of the Radio Diagnostic & Medical Imaging Department, for the organization of all Radiology staff, for the management of Radiographic patient services and facilities, for equipment and for consumable. Responsible for   maintaining and implementing the departmental policy and procedures together with assigned clinical duties for managing service delivery and operations across the full range of diagnostic services offered at NMC – pathology, radiology, and endoscopy to ensure the highest level of patient care and service delivery. 

 

 

Key Responsibilities- Major Tasks and Responsibilities

 

 

Core Duties

 

 

  • Taking responsibility for all radiographic quality assurance and taking a role as a radiation-safety manager
  • Ensuring that CT waiting times are kept to a minimum whilst dealing with urgent requests for acute cases.
  • Performing various CT scans
  • Reporting to and liaising with Radiologist and Doctors on all imaging done
  • Performing X-Ray Scans
  • Operating Imaging Equipment in differing and demanding environments and being able to manage an unpredictable workload effectively and interact successfully with fellow health care professionals. 
  • Preparing departmental statistics and various reports as required.
  • Ensuring that all X-Ray images and CT images has been sent for reporting and the necessary images delivered to the patients
  • Ensuring that the machines in the Department are warmed up every morning
  • Enquire if patients a booked for the day from the reception and if need be, take the patients from the reception to the CT or X-ray room
  • Going through the procedures with patients to ensure they are properly prepped for the procedure
  • Performing other appropriate tasks and duties that are assigned within the realm of their knowledge, skills, and abilities

 

Planning & Organizing

  • Contributing towards the development and implementation of the department-wide strategy
  • Managing the department 24/7 X-Ray and CT Scan operations
  • Supervising all X-Ray Staff and CT Operations
  • Developing and implementing appropriate procedures, tools; policies, and processes for Radiology services at NMC
  • Participating in all appropriate and necessary meetings and committees

 

Staffing

  • Recruitment, On-boarding and providing induction training for new staff in the Radiology Department
  • Providing training, coaching, and mentoring to support the personal and professional development of the Radiography Department at NMC
  • Managing the Performance of the Radiology Services staff in line with NMC’s Performance Management Policy
  • Being accountable for own professional actions, working independently and providing close supervision and training to staff working in the CT department

 

Delegating & Supervising

 

  • Manage the inventory of supplies and equipment in CT and X-Ray Services Department

 

Measuring and Reporting

 

  • Evaluating the operational risks in the Radiology Department and developing and implementing adequate controls to mitigate the risks.
  • Providing periodic reports and updates on the activities and performance of the Radiology Department in the prescribed format.

 

Others   

 

  • Providing input to marketing and sales campaigns
  • Providing support and input to the development of new products in Radiology Services  
  • Undertaking research to identify new and better Radiology practices and technology for adoption in NMC.

 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours

 

 

Knowledge

 

  • BSc in Radiography or the equivalent
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Radiography operations
  • Knowledge or experience in other Specialist procedure is essential e.g., Ultrasound, CT Scanning, Angiography or MRI
