Operating Theatre Supervisor

Job Summary

The Operating Theatre Supervisor is responsible for most of the day-to-day operational issues within the operating theatres. The incumbent is responsible for supervising the staff in the operating theatre with responsibilities which involve assessing procedures and ensuring all individuals involved in theatre procedures adhere to the facility's policies, external procedures, and legal requirements with the aim of delivering superior patient care experience.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the operating theatre staff.

Focus on creating an environment that allows staff to be motivated and develop the team through providing mentorship, and through setting objectives and ensuring their delivery through personal development plans and appraisals.

Manage scheduling of surgeries and allocation of theatre resources to ensure first class patient care and optimum efficiency.

Oversee the various theatres by committing to regular walk-arounds to ensure focus and understanding of any issues faced by the staff.

Identify and implement service improvements to enhance clinical care and maximise theatre efficiency and utilisation.

Ensure the theatres, sterilization room and storeroom are sterilized according to schedule and standards.

Ensure an adequate and accurate inventory of surgical supplies are available.

Provide management and clinical input across theatres, using a problem-solving approach to resolve or prevent operational incidents.

Analyse data and compile monthly or ad hoc reports as required.

Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthesiologists and other medical professionals daily.

Monitor, assess and make recommendations for the operating theatre.

Assist in the theatre in cases of emergency when required.

Assist with the implementation and of policies and procedures for the theatre in keeping with best practices.

Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate quality, health, safety, security and environmental policies and procedures.

Perform any other job duties as required by the job function.

Minimum Education and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in healthcare management, nursing, or a related field from an accredited university.

Must be an active registered member of the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.

 

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in an operation theatre setting.

Minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory role with success in leading and positively influencing staff.

Experience of customer care, including with customers in challenging situations.

Experience in using MS Office Suite.

 

Or any equivalent combination of qualification and experience

Ability to always live the Vision and Values by demonstrating an understanding of hospital’s vision and values, using them as a point of reference where appropriate. Keeps the vision and values at the forefront of decision-making and personal action.

 

Other

Ability to stand for long periods.

Availability to work after hours for on-call emergency situations as needed.
