Position Summary:
The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the kitchen, ensuring efficient workflow, compliance with health and safety regulations, and maintaining high standards of food preparation and presentation. This role includes supervising kitchen staff, managing schedules, and ensuring that all directives from management are implemented effectively. Additionally, the Kitchen Supervisor ensures that all meals are prepared according to recipe standards to maintain consistency and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Management:
- Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Monitor food preparation processes to ensure quality and consistency.
- Ensure that all orders are prepared and delivered within established timelines.
- Oversee inventory management, including stock levels and replenishment needs.
2. Staff Supervision and Training:
- Assign duties to kitchen staff and monitor performance to ensure productivity.
- Conduct training sessions for kitchen staff on food preparation, hygiene standards, and safety protocols.
- Address staff concerns, mediate conflicts, and foster a positive working environment.
- Assist in the onboarding and orientation of new team members.
3. Health and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all kitchen operations comply with local health and safety regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections to maintain cleanliness, organization, and proper equipment usage.
- Monitor and enforce food safety practices, including proper storage, handling, and labeling.
4. Quality Control:
- Monitor food quality and presentation standards to meet customer satisfaction.
- Work closely with the Restaurant Manager to implement and maintain recipes, portion controls, and cooking techniques.
- Identify and address any issues affecting food quality or service.
5. Administrative Duties:
- Prepare and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during shifts.
- Assist in inventory management by tracking stock levels and preparing order lists.
- Maintain records of kitchen operations, including daily checklists, temperature logs, and incident reports.
- Support cost control initiatives by minimizing waste and ensuring efficient use of resources.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training or certification is a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a kitchen or culinary environment, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.
Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to multitask and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations.
- Basic understanding of inventory management and cost control.
- Prior experience as a chef is required.
- Must be able to prepare meals as per recipe and instruct and train chefs to cook according to the recipe manual.
