General Manager - Retail

Title: General Manager - Retail

Location: Giftland Group, Giftland Mall – Guyana

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Job Summary:

The General Manager (GM) of Retail is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the Giftland OfficeMax Department Store, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction, meeting sales targets, and managing a team of retail associates. The GM will drive the store’s performance by executing strategic initiatives, optimizing inventory management, and enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Operational Management:
    • Oversee all store operations, including sales, customer service, inventory management, and staff performance.
    • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards.
    • Manage store budget, including expenses and payroll, to meet financial targets.
  2. Sales and Performance:
    • Drive sales and profitability by developing and implementing strategies to increase store revenue.
    • Analyze sales data and trends to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
    • Set and monitor performance goals for the team to achieve sales targets.
  3. Customer Service:
    • Ensure exceptional customer service by maintaining high standards and addressing customer inquiries and concerns.
    • Develop and implement programs to enhance the customer experience and build customer loyalty.
  4. Staff Management:
    • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing team of retail associates.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and implement development plans.
    • Foster a positive work environment and address employee issues promptly.
  5. Inventory and Merchandising:
    • Manage inventory levels to ensure optimal stock levels and reduce shrinkage.
    • Oversee visual merchandising to ensure product displays are attractive and in line with company standards.
  6. Marketing and Promotions:
    • Coordinate with the Marketing Manager to Implement and monitor local marketing and promotional activities to drive store traffic and sales.
    • Collaborate with the marketing team to execute campaigns and promotions effectively.
  7. Reporting and Analysis:
    • Prepare and present regular reports on store performance, sales metrics, and operational issues to executive team.
    • Utilize data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive store improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or a related field (preferred).
  • Proven experience in a retail management role, with a track record of driving sales and managing teams.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a focus on enhancing the customer experience.
  • Proficiency in retail management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret sales data and trends.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to [weight limit] pounds.
  • Capability to handle a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
