The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is a specialized agency with the responsibility for the care and protection of children, especially those who are at risk or have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to recruit for the role of Cook, on contract.

The Cook plays a crucial role in providing nutritious meals and maintaining a safe and hygienic kitchen in Tobago Reception Center. Responsibilities will include preparing and cooking meals according to dietary guidelines and children's nutritional needs. The incumbent will collaborate with the nutritionist to plan menus that promote healthy eating habits among children. Additionally, the cook must ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain inventory of kitchen supplies. This position requires a passion for cooking, attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting the well-being of children through wholesome and delicious meals.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Certification in Food and Beverage Management or related field.
  • Three (3) years cooking experience in preparing and cooking large quantities of food for groups of twenty-five (25) or more.
  • Certification in First Aid CPR/ Pediatric First Aid.
  • A valid Food Identification Badge.
Principal Accountabilities/ Key Functions:
  • Prepare and cook nutritious meals and snacks for children according to established menus and dietary guidelines.

  • Ensure meals meet nutritional requirements and cater to any dietary restrictions or allergies.
  • Collaborate with nutritionists or dietitians to plan weekly menus that promote healthy eating habits and meet nutritional standards.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Follow proper food handling procedures to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illnesses.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment for cleanliness and functionality; report any maintenance issues promptly.
  • Monitor inventory levels of food and kitchen supplies; order necessary items as needed.
  • Rotate stock and properly store perishable items to minimize waste.
  • Assist with developing kitchen activities for children in the center
  • Ensure the kitchen space is cleaned after each meal.
  • Ability to operate and maintain kitchen equipment properly to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Efficiently managing kitchen operations to meet meal schedules and ensure timely service.
  • Represent the Authority in an official capacity, as required.
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the House Coordinator or Team Lead.
