The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is a specialized agency with the responsibility for the care and protection of children, especially those who are at risk or have been victims of abuse or neglect.

The Children's Authority of Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to recruit for the role of Nurse, on contract.

The Nurse will be caring and compassionate in nature, with the ability to deal with emotionally charged and pressured situations. He/ she will be responsible for conducting thorough health assessments, administering medications according to prescribed protocols, and delivering nursing care tailored to the needs of young patients.  The nurse is required to collaborate closely with healthcare providers and childcare staff to develop and implement care plans that promote the well-being and development of children. Additionally, the incumbent will document medical assessments, treatments, and interventions accurately.  

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) Degree in Nursing/ Pediatric Nursing or related specialty area.
  • Proven experience as a Nurse in a healthcare setting, with a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
  • Relevant training and/or certifications as a Pediatric Nurse.
  • Training in CPR or pediatric first aid.
Principal Accountabilities/ Key Functions:
  • Nurture a compassionate environment by providing support to children engaging the attention of the Authority.

  • Identify patient’s care requirements, focus on their needs and act on them.
  • Administer medication to children according to prescribed dosages, schedules, and methods, ensuring compliance with medical protocols and safety standards.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and administration of medications, adhering to medication policies and protocols to minimize risks and ensure children’s safety.
  • Assist the Doctor with medical examinations, the collection of information and maintenance of records on the patient.
  • Respond to medical emergencies promptly and efficiently, including administering first aid and initiating emergency protocols as needed.
  • Ensure that the services delivered at the Reception Centre contribute toward safeguarding children by working closely with the members of the team inclusive of the Psychologist, and Case Management Officer.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed medical records, documenting assessments, treatments, and interventions according to regulatory standards and confidentiality guidelines.
  • Assess and monitor children’s physical health. This involves conducting thorough examinations, tracking vital signs, and observing changes in patient conditions.
  • Work collaboratively with external health care professionals where necessary to optimize children’s health status.
  • Represent the Authority in an official capacity, as required.
  • Perform any other relevant duties assigned by the Doctor or Team Lead.
