Utilities & Facilities Engineer

Main Purpose of Job:

The Utilities & Facilities Engineer will assume a leadership role within the Engineering & Maintenance team, emphasizing the critical responsibility of designing comprehensive plans to guide operations. This involves actively engaging with and extracting valuable facts and data from the collaborative efforts of the team members. By leveraging the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology, the individual will not only oversee the execution of these plans but also play a pivotal role in ensuring that the actions taken are informed by accurate and relevant information. Importantly, these meticulously crafted plans are geared towards achieving specific objectives set by upper management. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of utilities (such as water, gas, electricity, and waste disposal) and ensuring that all facilities are maintained to the highest standards, complying with all relevant safety and environmental regulations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Utilities Management:

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of utility systems including High Voltage Electrical systems, Cooling towers, Compressed Air systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and Boilers.
  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of utilities necessary for Operations.
  • Monitor utility consumption and implement measures to reduce energy and water usage.
  • Manage contracts and relationships with utility suppliers and service providers.

2. Facility Maintenance:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive facility maintenance program.
  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Oversee the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and equipment, ensuring all are in good working order.
  • Manage refurbishment, renovations, and office moves to minimize disruption to operations.

3. Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations regarding utilities and facility operations.
  • Implement and oversee safety programs to reduce the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Keep up to date with the latest environmental and safety legislation affecting facility operations.

4. Budget Management:

  • Prepare and manage the budget for utilities and facility maintenance.
  • Monitor spending and implement cost-saving initiatives where possible.
  • Provide regular reports on expenses related to utilities and facilities.

5. Team Leadership:

  • Lead, train, and develop the utilities and facilities team.
  • Schedule and assign tasks to team members, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.

 

Required Qualifications/Experience/Competencies/Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in utilities and facilities management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Experience in managing utility systems in a manufacturing environment, with a preference for those familiar with distillery or bottling operations.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and control costs.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in facility management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Any equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
