The Solar Engineer Project Manager will provide independent quality control and act as the primary on-site representative of Wigton to ensure compliance with project specifications, the Engineering, Construction and Procurement (EPC) contractual requirements, and stakeholder expectations.

Job Purpose
The Solar Engineer Project Manager will report to the Deputy CEO and will be responsible for overseeing the construction, quality assurance, safety, and community relations on Wigton’s solar energy project. The role is crucial to ensuring the successful execution of Wigton’s utility-scale solar projects, including a 50 MW project and a 20.7 MW project.
Key Responsibilities
Management/Administrative:
- Serve as Wigton’s primary on-site quality and safety engineer, overseeing the execution of solar energy projects by turnkey contractors.
- Act as a liaison between Wigton and its stakeholders, ensuring smooth community relations and addressing any concerns that may affect project continuity.
- Ensure compliance with all project agreements, permits, and regulatory requirements throughout the construction phase.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to Wigton’s engineering and project teams.
- Maintain accurate documentation, including progress reports, quality assurance records, and safety compliance reports.
- Support the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) with technical input for commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects as needed.
Technical/Professional:
- Oversee construction management for utility-scale solar projects, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, electrical design, and testing standards.
- Lead construction quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) efforts, ensuring compliance with industry standards and Wigton’s project specifications.
- Conduct regular site inspections to assess contractor performance and adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Coordinate with the engineering and procurement teams to ensure timely delivery and installation of solar components.
- Assist in the design, testing, and commissioning of solar PV systems.
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations and best practices, fostering a culture of safety on-site.
- Provide technical support and guidance during project implementation, addressing design modifications and troubleshooting as needed.
- Support the development of new solar bids, providing technical expertise for proposal submissions.
Academic Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Project Management Certification is an asset.
- NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Professionals) or similar PV certifications is an asset.
- At least 5 years of experience in solar construction management, with expertise in quality control, safety, electrical design, and testing.
- Experience in the design and supervision of construction for utility-scale solar projects is an asset.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Strong technical expertise in solar energy systems, including design, construction, and quality control.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as required.
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Ability to engage with stakeholders, including community representatives, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple teams and ensure project deliverables are met.
