ABOUT ECGC:

The East Caribbean Group of Companies (ECGC) operates in the manufacturing sector with a focus on food supply. The business is structured as GRAINS - Flour, Feeds, Rice, and BEVERAGES - Water, Sodas, Energy, and Juices. ECGC exports to the OECS, the wider Caribbean, and the World.

  

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Miller will be responsible for overseeing the milling operations for both flour and animal feed production. This role ensures the efficient and high-quality production of grain-based products while maintaining operational excellence, safety, and regulatory compliance. The Senior Miller will play a key role in optimizing production processes, managing teams, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

  

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Milling Operations Management

  • Oversee and manage daily milling operations for flour production.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of raw materials to achieve production targets while minimizing waste.
  • Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure consistency and compliance with industry standards.
  • Optimize milling parameters to enhance efficiency, yield, and product quality.
  • Maintain accurate production records and reports.
  • Monitor and re-engineer procedures and processes to ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness of all operations.
  • Ensure the mill, warehouse, and grain intake operations are managed to maximize yields, outputs, quality, and productivity.
  • Report on the performance of the operations, plant, staff, and materials as required.
  • Assist with sourcing of raw materials, packaging, fumigation, mill, and warehouse supplies while maintaining the systems of FIFO and JIT as much as possible.
  • Liaise with the Plant Technology Department on minor and major maintenance repairs and capital project requirements.
  • Liaise with the Commercial & Innovation Department to determine requirements and set production schedules.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in milling operations.
  • Work closely with the Head of Production – Grains to develop and implement strategic initiatives for operational excellence.
  • Leverage new technologies and innovations to improve productivity and product quality.

Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to food safety, hygiene, and regulatory requirements for flour production.
  • Collaborate with the Quality & Product Development team to maintain high-quality standards and address non-conformities.
  • Conduct regular equipment inspections and maintenance coordination to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure that fumigation schedules are maintained and work closely with the Facility and Security Manager to ensure ongoing cleaning, preventing infestation of the plant and products while meeting all required standards.
  • Prepare the facility for, and participate in, regulatory/third-party/customer/company Food Safety audits.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Supervise and provide leadership to the flour mill production staff.
  • Train and mentor milling teams to enhance their skills and competencies.
  • Monitor staff performance, evaluate, set priorities, delegate, and discipline accordingly.
  • Ensure the necessary training is imparted to staff in conjunction with the People & Culture Department for the development of skills & competencies, greater productivity, improved performance, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous learning within the production team.

Health, Safety, & Environmental Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations in the milling operations.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies to create a safe working environment.
  • Promote sustainability initiatives within the production processes.

  

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Degree/Diploma in Milling Science, Food Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in milling operations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of flour production processes.
  • Hands-on technical experience with milling equipment, automation systems, and process optimization.
  • Understanding of Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) and food safety regulations, quality assurance, and HACCP principles.
  • Excellent leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Leadership and team management abilities.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality.
