Job Summary

The Junior Accounting Assitant  is responsible for performing administrative duties that support the operations of the Finance Department and for verifying and maintaining accounting information.  All activities must conform to organizational guidelines and standards and to all legal requirements.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Receives Balance Sheets and performs the necessary checks to ensure completeness and carries out all processing activities, such as: -
  • Records Sales Promotions on respective sheets for each restaurant.
  • Verifies Cash Register amount against Balance Sheet.
  • Audits daily sales and cash reports.
  • Checks accuracy on Cashier’s Report against what is written on the Balance Sheet.
  • Checks unusual or large pay-out on Petty Cash and reports any discrepancies.
  • Verifies deposits and ensures that what is written on the Balance Sheet coincides with deposit. slip.
  • Verifies LINX, Visa transactions, WiPay and online payments.
  • Ensures that all Balance Sheets are placed in order of cashiers’ Reports.
  • Ensures meal vouchers are equal to what is recorded on Balance Sheet.
  • Enters sales on applicable software, for each Restaurant.
  • Enters all transactions made in order of date and cashier’s Report # i.e. date, cash register sales, refunds, short, over, vat sales, vat meal vouchers and deposits, Initial and date.
  • Records and dates all cash shortages in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Records all payments made to employees via Petty Cash.
  1. Prepares vouchers for suppliers’ invoices.
  2. Enters all general ledger, petty cash payments, accounts payable invoices and generates cheques.
  3. Maintains Local Purchases, Filing etc. in accordance with established guidelines.
  4. Verifies information against computer printout and makes corrections where necessary.
  5. Prepares and submits Accounts activity reports.
  6. Verifies information before closing off one month and starting a new month.
  7. Participates in stock counts as required. 
  8. Performs all other duties relevant to job position.

 

Qualifications Skills and Experience

  • 5 CXC passes including English, Mathematics and Principles of Accounts.
  • Certification in the accounting field will be an asset.
  • ACCA Level 1 will be an asset.
  • At least one (1) year experience in a similar position.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Very good organizational skills.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented.
