Kingston Logistics Center Limited, a leading player in the shipping and logistics industry in Jamaica, is looking for an experienced Gate Security Officer to join our “Faster, Easier, Smarter” KLC team. The KLC Gate Security Officer is responsible for maintaining the security and controlled access of the KLC Internal Security Gate. This role focuses specifically on the meticulous checking and validation of all vehicles entering and exiting the KLC through the gate, ensuring compliance with customs regulations and preventing illegal activities. This role also requires accurate and timely data entry into the KLC Movements Database. The guard will be stationed primarily at the gate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Vehicle Access Control (Gate Focus): Rigorous inspection and validation of all vehicles (cars, trucks, containers, etc.) entering and leaving the KLC through the gate.

This includes:

o Verifying driver identification and documentation (e.g., driver's license, vehicle registration, delivery manifests).

o Inspecting vehicles for unauthorized goods or materials, paying close attention to areas where contraband could be concealed.

o Ensuring that all necessary customs documentation is present and correctly filled out, in accordance with relevant regulations.

o Recording vehicle details (make, model, license plate, container number if applicable) and driver information in the KLC Movements Database

KLC Movements Database Management: Accurate and real-time updating of the KLC Movements Database with details of all container entries and exits through the gate, including time of entry/exit, container type, vehicle and any other relevant information.

• Surveillance Monitoring (Gate Focus): Monitoring CCTV and other surveillance equipment specifically focused on the gate area to detect and respond to suspicious activities or security breaches.

• Communication: Maintaining clear and effective communication with other security personnel, supervisors, and other employees, especially regarding activities at the gate.

• Customs Compliance: Adhering to all relevant customs regulations and procedures to prevent illegal activities, such as smuggling or the transportation of prohibited goods. This includes understanding and staying up-to-date on current customs requirements.

• Incident Response (Gate Focus): Responding promptly and effectively to security incidents at the gate, such as unauthorized access attempts, or reports of suspicious activity. This may involve contacting law enforcement or other emergency services as needed.

• Enforcement of Policies (Gate Focus): Enforcing company security policies and procedures specifically related to access control at the gate.

• Reporting: Preparing and submitting incident reports and other documentation as required, particularly those related to activity at the gate.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Proven experience as a Security Officer, preferably in a shipping and logistics environment or a related field.

• Knowledge of customs regulations and procedures is highly desirable.

• Strong observation and surveillance skills.

• Ability to use and maintain security equipment, including CCTV systems.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Strong attention to detail and 1 accuracy, particularly with data entry.

• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.

• Valid security guard license (if required).

• Basic computer skills, including proficiency in data entry in excel and database management. Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, primarily at the gate.

• Ability to lift and carry objects as needed.

• Ability to work in various weather conditions.

Working Conditions:

• This is a full-time position that may require working shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

• The work environment is primarily at the gate, which may be indoors or outdoors.
