Job Summary

The Enterprise Risk Analyst safeguards the organisation and its reputation, customers, assets and the interests of stakeholders by providing support to the Risk Management Department as part of the second line of defense through the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of strategic and operational risks on a timely basis.

Summary of Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing, administering and maintaining the Enterprise Risk Management framework for the Group. This function requires but is not limited to the following:
    • Conducts strategic risk analysis of the key risks on an annual basis; prepares reports/heatmaps and presentations.
    • Assists Risk Owners with the identification of key risk indicators in their business units.
    • Conducts process level risk reviews to identify all process level risks and controls as well as prepare action plans to address any gaps in the mitigating measures identified. Updates these as needed.
    • Maintains Enterprise Risk registers.
    • Facilitates Risk & Control Self-Assessment exercises at least annually, by liaising with Risk Owners to ensure completion as required and prepares summary reports.
    • Reviews operational risk incidents, analyses root causes and reports on incidents as required.
    • Maintains Operational Loss database.
    • Prepares Operational Risk reports, which analyses and assesses the operational risk profile of the Group.
    • Reviews new regulations or regulatory guidelines with a view to ensuring our policies adequately address the requirements.
  • Trains risk owners in the identification and analysis of risks and in the use of the company’s risk assessment tools.
  • Assists in creating a more risk aware culture within the Group through various initiatives/media.
  • Performs a risk advisory role on assigned projects to ensure all relevant project risks and controls are considered/captured.
  • Continuously monitors and reviews changes in the internal and external environment.
  • Keeps abreast of changes in accounting practices, risk management practices or standards, government/tax regulations and other factors as they relate to the insurance industry.
  • Performs any other duties and special projects as assigned.

 Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Accounting or a related professional qualification (ACCA, CIA, CRMA etc.) and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Risk Management, Internal or External Auditing, Accounting, Process Analysis and Improvement, or Operational Management. 
  • Professional Risk Management qualification (PRMIA, FRM, GARP) would be an asset.
  • Auditing Experience is a definite asset.
  • A Master’s Degree would be an asset.
  • Good understanding of financial services company operations.
  • Experience identifying, documenting and evaluating risks and controls relating to operations, financial reporting and compliance processes and objectives preferred.
  • Experience reviewing and understanding policies, procedures and regulations preferred.
  • Experience with risk reporting and risk metrics preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and project management abilities.
  • Ability to handle high volume workflow situations.
  • Strong team development capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to accept accountability and use initiative.
  • Excellent presentation skills in-person and with remote audiences. 
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and risk reporting/management software.
  • Ability to partner effectively across all levels of the organization and develop positive working relationships.
