Job Summary:

Performs basic mechanical tasks using common hand, portable, electric or air tools and expected to secure tooling, make set-ups and adjustments as well as to operate a variety of machine and welding tools to bring parts and tooling within tolerance. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the performance of routine repairs to damaged or non-functioning equipment. 
  • Operate portable electric or air tools: drills, hammers, grinders, welding plant and lifting equipment. 
  • Align and balance rotating equipment.  
  • Assemble and repair tubing, piping, valves and fittings subjected to high and low temperature and pressure or where welding is required. 
  • Operate heating units such as blowtorches, furnaces, oxyacetylene torches. 
  • Set up and operate machine shop tools in the performance of all machine work within tolerance. 
  • Verify dimensions, alignments and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators.   
  • Trouble shoot, diagnose, and correct mechanical problems in the power production  
  • Study blue prints, layouts or charts, and job orders for information on specifications and tooling instructions and to determine material requirements and operational sequences.  
  • Perform duties as a Mechanical Technician as a regular part of job. 
  • Inspect work for quality and dimensional requirements. 
  • Perform routine maintenance of the tooling and welding equipment. 
  • Observe all safety rules and maintain a safe work area. 
  • Maintain welding qualifications and perform all plant welding as required. 

 Minimum Required Qualification and Experience:

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Two (2) years’ experience in a welding, machinist or mechanical trade or in diesel power plant maintenance.
  • Ability to use computers and applicable software to include Microsoft Office.
  • Willing to work rotating work schedules and extended work hours to include weekends, public holidays, and in emergency situations
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision and to provide recommendations and solutions to improve or mitigate adverse conditions, routine maintenance
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
