The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the performance of major maintenance and repairs on plant facilities and equipment in accordance with the plant maintenance program and procedures.

General Functions:

  • Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on all equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Perform all scheduled maintenance on engines.
  • Withdraw parts and supplies from inventory and complete usage reports to report such withdrawals to the plant’s inventory control system.
  • Ensure all Work Orders are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Report all broken or missing tools and maintenance equipment to the Mechanical Supervisor and assist with arranging for their repairs or replacement as required.
  • Participate in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and predictive/preventive maintenance records.
  • Set up and operate machine shop tools in the performance of all machine work to close tolerances.
  • Align and balance rotating equipment.
  • Inspect, re-condition and repair all engines and auxiliary equipment.
  • Assist in the startup, shutdown and operations of plant equipment in an environmentally safe manner.
  • Continuously observe safety rules and practices, check conditions of safety equipment, attend and participate in scheduled safety meetings and training.
  • Perform operations in compliance with environmental requirements.
  • Observe, correct if possible, and report situations that are likely to develop in to problems or safety hazards.
  • Ensure maintenance areas are kept clean and free of debris daily.
  • Perform other related functions as assigned by the Mechanical Supervisor.

Education/Experience Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or it's equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution. OR Minimum Requirement: Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a recognized tertiary institution with at least three (3) years in a similar position. 
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a diesel power plant mechanic, millwright or equivalent.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of engines. Pumps, auxiliary equipment, welding and machining.
