The incumbent plays a key role in monitoring and managing the Underwriting processes that contribute towards the achievement of business targets including revenue and loss ratio.

Principal Roles, Responsibilities and Duties

Underwriting

  •  Appropriately evaluates and assess risks and decides whether risk should be accepted or shared with facultative or a re-insurer.
  • Negotiates terms with policyholders and/or intermediaries and specifies conditions to be insured.
  • Provides, follows up and acts upon quotations for new business.
  • Processes and follows-up on renewals to achieve retention target.
  • Enters endorsement information according to underwriting standards and limits of authority.
  • Verifies information and produces policy documents and certificates.
  • Verifies and validates Bordereaux from Agents/Brokers to ensure proper documentation and risk assessment.
  • Provides and processes data for analytical reports.
  • Advises Brokers, Agents and other intermediaries to ensure compliance.
  • Maintains hard copy and electronic filing systems to facilitate easy retrieval and proper record keeping in accordance with the company’s standards and requirements.
  • Actively applies and delivers all TRINRE customer service standards and core beliefs by demonstrating professionalism, promptness, accuracy, courtesy and helpfulness.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of a team environment by performing other related duties
  • Adheres to Anti-Money Laundering guidelines.
  • Reviews all policy files, prepares Compliance Check List, sends out letters and follow-ups for documentation.

Business Development

  • Actively markets new and existing products and services (to Brokers and other producers) as required to optimize profitable growth by aggressively achieving monthly production targets.
  • Makes recommendations on new products and implements approved strategies for business acquisition, retention and expansion.
  • Influences and builds on new and existing Broker relationship(s) in an effort to acquire new business and retain existing (clients/accounts/policies).
  • Champions and delivers premier service to internal and external stakeholders in line with the company’s objectives in a professional and courteous manner and solicits feedback on the service level(s).
  • Conducts regular visits to assigned brokers and produces weekly reports of visits and sales tracking, as required.

Business and Portfolio Management

  • Monitor, analyses and report on all key metrics and KPIs across the business to ensure that business targets are being met. This includes all producers and channels of production.
  • Works closely with the Assistant Manager of Operations and/or respective Supervisor to ensure that recommendations and action plans are implemented on a day to day basis in order to ensure results are achieved.

Premier Service

  • Ensures the achievement of all service standards and KPIs through process improvement and delivery within and across departments for both internal and external customers.
  • Monitors customer satisfaction as well as increased image and reputation.
  • Lead on relationship management with key stakeholders and producers ensuring increased and renewed business opportunities.

Operations

  • Undertakes the analysis of loss ratio details to allow for the fine tuning of underwriting guidelines.
  • Adheres to Anti-money Laundering guidelines
  • Actively applies and delivers all TRINRE customer service standards and core beliefs by demonstrating professionalism, promptness, accuracy, courtesy and helpfulness.

Reporting

  • Provides regular reports to the Risk and Underwriting Manager as agreed and as required to senior management.

Other

  • Provides support to the Assistant Manager of Operations and the Underwriting Supervisors required. Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Minimum 5 CXC passes including English and Mathematics
  • Diploma in Insurance (Asset)
  • Five (5) years’ experience in an insurance environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of marketing concepts will be an asset
  • Certificate in CII or other related certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies)
  • Knowledge of insurance operations, procedures and all lines of business.
  • Technical knowledge of underwriting principles and the relevant laws and statutory requirements governing the insurance industry.

  • Ability to manage and analyze data, identify trends and recommend solutions to improve performance.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and make effective business decisions.
  • Good problem solving.
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, and other office products and insurance platforms.

  • Strong Business Acumen with Sales Orientation.
  • High Emotional Intelligence.
