Job Summary:

A Tire Repair Specialist is responsible for inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining vehicle tires. This role involves diagnosing tire issues, performing tire repairs, balancing, mounting, and replacing tires, and ensuring proper inflation and alignment. The specialist may work with a variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and commercial vehicles. The goal is to ensure the safety, functionality, and longevity of tires, contributing to the overall performance and safety of the vehicle.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Tire Inspection:

    • Inspect tires for wear, damage, punctures, and proper inflation.
    • Diagnose tire-related issues such as leaks, cracks, bulges, and uneven tread wear.
  2. Tire Repair:

    • Repair punctures or damaged tires using patches, plugs, or other repair techniques.
    • Ensure that repairs meet safety and performance standards.
  3. Tire Installation & Replacement:

    • Remove old or damaged tires and install new or repaired tires.
    • Mount and balance tires on rims to ensure smooth and safe operation.
    • Install valve stems and tire sensors (if applicable).
  4. Tire Maintenance:

    • Rotate tires to promote even wear and prolong tire life.
    • Check and adjust tire pressure to manufacturer specifications.
    • Perform wheel alignments and tire balancing to ensure proper tire positioning and performance.
  5. Customer Service:

    • Provide customers with information regarding tire conditions and recommendations for maintenance or replacement.
    • Educate customers on tire safety, proper inflation, and routine care.
    • Assist customers in selecting the appropriate tires for their vehicle based on driving conditions and vehicle specifications.
  6. Safety & Compliance:

    • Adhere to all safety protocols when handling tires, tools, and equipment.
    • Ensure that all work complies with relevant safety standards and industry regulations.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, following company and regulatory guidelines.
  7. Equipment Operation:

    • Operate tire repair tools and equipment, including tire mounting machines, balancing machines, air compressors, and alignment systems.
    • Perform routine maintenance on tire service equipment to ensure proper function and safety.
  8. Record Keeping:

    • Maintain accurate records of tire repairs, installations, and maintenance services.
    • Track tire inventory and report on tire usage and needs for restocking.

Required Skills:

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of tire construction, wear patterns, and repair techniques.
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to diagnose tire-related issues and apply appropriate repair solutions.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in inspecting tires and performing repairs or replacements to ensure safety and optimal performance.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy tires and work in various physical positions, including standing, kneeling, and bending for extended periods.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly with customers and explain technical tire issues in simple terms.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in tire repair or automotive service is preferred.
  • Certification in tire repair or automotive service is a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license (may be required).

Working Conditions:

  • This position is typically based in a service center, auto repair shop, or dealership.
  • Work may involve exposure to grease, dirt, and tire debris, with occasional outdoor work.
  • Physical demands include lifting heavy tires and operating machinery.
