The Technical Director (TD) is responsible for overseeing and controlling all technical aspects of a television production to ensure the delivery of high-quality broadcasts. They work in collaboration with the producers and the entire production team to execute the creative vision while maintaining technical excellence.
Requirements
- First Degree in related field (eg broadcasting, film or media production)
- At least 3 years’ experience setting up and successfully executing Live Productions
- Proficient at Directing Live TV Broadcasts and Live Streamed Events
- Strong knowledge of production workflows and industry standards
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Professional and strong work ethic
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced live production environment
- Must have IT & Video editing knowledge
- Requisite Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Google Suite
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and a commitment to delivery high quality broadcasts
Core Functions
- Coordinate and manage overall show production
- Collaborate with client and other technical and creative staff, such as producers, camera operators, audio engineers, replay operators and stage managers, to ensure the successful execution of the Live Production
- Operate video switchers to select and switch between different camera angles, graphics, and video sources during live broadcasts or recording sessions. Manage the insertion of graphics, animations, and special effects as required during the production. This may include lower thirds, overlays, and other on-screen elements
- Control and monitor audio levels, ensuring proper balance between microphones, music, sound effects, and other audio sources. Adjust audio as needed during the production to maintain quality and clarity
- Work closely with camera operators to position cameras and frame shots
- Troubleshooting technical issues
- Setting up and breaking down equipment before and after events
- Interacting with clients to understand their needs and requirements for events
- Attend Site Visits
- Staying current with industry advancements and incorporating new technologies into your workflow
- Maintain a safe working environment by following safety protocols and ensuring the safety of the crew and equipment.
