Job Purpose
The post-holder is expected to work in a team of Information Technology professionals who are responsible for defining, designing, installing, and maintaining various versions of Operating Systems, HPE/Dell, and other enterprise-level storage solutions, as well as supporting the CIG Network environment, and ensuring network and system security function as expected.
The post-holder primary responsibilities vary depending on assigned priorities. However, the purpose of all technical skilled staff is to deliver fast, efficient, and effective technical support service to customers and to resolve incidents in connection with information systems and related equipment. Thereby maximizing the efficiency of the entire core Civil Service.
The post-holder is also expected to use his/her technological expertise to proactively monitor and manage a variety of security solutions and technologies.
Dimensions
Information Technology is at the core of most Government services as a result, CSD plays a mission-critical role. The Department provides ICT services to 85 government departments and agencies.
It provides a government-wide information strategic planning and policy service, it is a technology resource for the Deputy Governor, legislative decision-makers, and all public sector agencies.
The Department is growing to approximately 70 staff with an annual operating budget of approximately $9.5 million. The current capital budget is CI$2.5 million with a value of fixed assets controlled by the department of CI$11 million.
he Department currently supports approximately 3000 desktop users, 50-60 bespoke in-house applications, and 52 commercial programs supporting CI$650M revenue.
 
The demand for “Always On” IT support for the business services of user departments places a significant responsibility on the post-holder to ensure the security, integrity, and availability of Government systems and networks.
The post-holder should function effectively as a member of a team. Additionally, the post-holder acts as a technical mentor for less experienced members of staff within the team.
As an IT professional, the post-holder is expected to offer IT advice and expert recommendations to customers, the post-holder is not however directly responsible for any staff, a budget, or dissemination of information.
 
Principal Accountabilities
1.
Troubleshoot Information Systems issues as they arise to diagnose their underlying cause to implement a solution or workaround, and assist users to recover and continue operation.

Manage virtual environments with advanced features running on CIG’s enterprise server infrastructure while ensuring they remain secure, highly available, and supported by industry best practices.

3. Ensure the security, availability, and integrity of information held on the Government Server Infrastructure through access controls, daily system monitoring, and backups.

Complete basic project management tasks such as planning, estimation, monitoring, and reporting while demonstrating the ability to work unsupervised.

Provide an effective interface between users, Computer Services personnel, and outside service providers; while adhering to priority and escalation procedures to ensure that all complaints are responsibly and professionally resolved.

Carry out the installation, commissioning, tuning, or upgrades for new or existing software systems, products, and utilities including completion of acceptance procedures and handover to users.

7. • Manage, deploy and configure hardware upgrades, software updates, security patches, and other necessary items on an as-needed basis.

Education & Experience
The post-holder must possess:
• An IT related Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three (3) years post-graduate IT Systems experience; OR
• A more mature entrant with an industry-recognized relevant technical accreditation plus a minimum of five (5) years of relevant IT experience in Enterprise Linux Administration.
All of the above experience must be in Enterprise Linux and Storage support or related IT fields. Any proven high-level performance or industry certifications will also be recognized and considered as relevant experience.
 
Technical Knowledge & Skills
The post-holder must have detailed knowledge and experience along with information concepts and practice in Linux Systems, Enterprise Storage, Enterprise Backup Solutions, Server Hardware, Virtualization, and Network Protocol (TCP/IP, UDP) environments. Manufacturer Certification in any of the above topics would be advantageous. Experience is also valued in:
• Latest versions of VMWare
• Latest versions of RHEL/Oracle Linux
• Latest versions Ubuntu
• Working knowledge of Bash and Python scripting languages
• FC SAN and iSCSI SAN management and implementation
• Hardware Module Security (HSM)
• Linux Server Automation
• Linux Patch Management Solutions
• Linux printer management
• Vulnerability scanning solutions
• Managing PAM solutions (Privileged Access Management)
