1.         Job Function

The Sports Journalist is responsible for reporting on local, regional and international sporting activities and producing and presenting sports stories and features. All activities must conform to organizational guidelines and standards and to all legal requirements of the industry.

2.         Principal Duties and Responsibilities

1. Track and report on sporting activities using multiple platforms of data gathering
2. Generate ideas for stories/features and follow leads from credible sources
3. Research and collate stats, general sporting information and matters affecting sporting activities
4. Write scripts for bulletins, headlines and reports in accordance with established guidelines
5. Edit scripts as required
6. Research traditional and non-traditional sporting disciplines to gain an understanding and appreciation of each
7. Produce and present sportscasts and special programmes
8. Build relationships with and network with international sporting agencies to source and report on sporting events
9. Performs all other duties relevant to the position and which will foster a culture of team building and accountability

4.         Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s in Sports Journalism, Journalism, Communication or a related field
• Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar position
• Computer proficiency
• Proficient in the use of Social Media

• Strong research skills
• Able to identify with and relate to various sporting disciplines
• Very good communication skills
