To play a major role in the effective operations of JMMB’s server infrastructure to ensure that the integrity and availability of the systems are maintained. Plays a major role in monitoring and maintaining of mission critical systems and enhancing the company’s disaster recovery capabilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Deploy, manage, maintain and monitor hardware and software required to facilitate Information Technology services to support the business operations of the JMMB Group and its subsidiaries throughout Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago and other regions where JMMB has established offices, including:
    • Communication Services – Email, VoIP and Virtual Collaboration
    • Storage Services – SAN and/or NAS
    • Infrastructure Services – Virtualization Infrastructure (on premise and cloud), Servers (Web, Application, Database and Middleware), Load Balancers 
    • Industry Specific Services - Automated Teller Machines (ATM), core banking and transaction processing/switching solutions

 

  • Monitor service delivery performance metrics. Liaise with stakeholders to help them plan for a deterioration in service and/or breaches of service level agreements.
  • Analyse service and component availability, reliability, maintainability and serviceability. Contribute to the availability management process and its operation. Perform defined availability management tasks. Ensure that services and components meet and continue to meet all of their agreed performance targets and service levels. Implement arrangements for disaster recovery and documents recovery procedures. Conduct testing of recovery procedures.
  • Monitor service component capacity and initiate actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures. Apply techniques to control the demand upon a particular resource or service. Contribute to capacity modelling and planning. Support the design of service component capacity.
  • Ensure that incidents are handled according to agreed procedures. Prioritise and diagnose incidents. Investigate causes of incidents and seek resolution. Escalate unresolved incidents. Facilitate recovery, following resolution of incidents. Document and close resolved incidents. Contribute to testing and improving incident management procedures.
  • Initiate and monitor actions to investigate and resolve problems in systems, processes and services. Determine problem fixes and remedies. Collaborate with others to implement agreed remedies and preventative measures. Support analysis of patterns and trends to improve the problem management processes.
  • Assess, analyse, develop, document and implement changes based on requests for change. Ensure that operational processes are in place for effective change control. Report on the lifecycle of change requests. Identify problems and issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Control assets in one or more significant areas ensuring that administration of full life cycle of assets is carried out. Produce and analyse registers and histories of authorised assets and verifies that all these assets are in a known state and location. Act to highlight and resolve potential instances of unauthorised assets.
  • Engage with consultants to confirm that products developed meet the service acceptance criteria and conform to the required standard. Provide input into change control processes.
  • Maintain operational security processes and check that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures. Provide advice on defining access rights and the application and operation of elementary physical, procedural and technical security controls. Investigate security breaches in accordance with established procedures and recommend required actions. Provide support and check that corrective actions are implemented.
  • Follow standard approaches to perform vulnerability assessments for information systems. Support creation of catalogues of information and technology assets for vulnerability assessment.
  • Support digital forensic investigations by applying standard tools and techniques to investigate devices. Recover damaged, deleted or hidden data from devices. Maintain integrity of records and collect information and evidence in a legally admissible way.
  • Use infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics. Configure tools and/or create scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure. Maintain operational procedures and checks that they are executed following agreed standards. Investigate and enable the resolution of operational issues. Provide reports and proposals for improvement, to specialists, Team members and Team leaders.
  • Monitor system software metrics and adjust configurations for optimum availability and performance. Review system software updates and identify those that merit action. Configure system software for required functionality and performance. Investigate and resolve system software problems, requesting action from supplier if required.
  • Undertake or supervise complex installations and de-installations of systems or components, including handover to the client. Develop procedures and standards for installation and handover to maintain and improve the installation service. Schedule installation work around client priorities and resource availability. Ensure adherence to established safety and quality procedures.
  • Propose and agree the configuration items (CIs) to be uniquely identified with naming conventions. Put in place operational processes for secure configuration, classification and management of CIs, and for verifying and auditing configuration records. Develop, configure and maintain tools (including automation) to identify, track, log and maintain accurate, complete and current information. Report on the status of configuration management. Identify problems and issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and maintain operational procedures for storage management. Monitor capacity, performance, availability and other operational metrics. Take appropriate action to ensure corrective and proactive maintenance of storage and backup systems to protect and secure business information. Create reports and proposals for improvement. Contribute to the planning and implementation of new installations and scheduled maintenance and changes of existing systems.
  • Performs any other duties which may be assigned from time to time

 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

  • BSc in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field from a recognised tertiary institution.
  • At least one relevant certification in Windows Server Administration or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of eight years’ experience in any area of Information Technology, preferably in a financial environment,
  • Minimum of six years’ experience administering a Windows Server environment
  • Experience implementing highly available server configurations and supporting infrastructure components 
  • Experience with Linux or AIX Operating Systems highly desirable.
  • Ability to research and analyse system performance challenges and recommend solutions
  • Familiarity with ITIL practices would be an advantage.
  • Experience in the following technologies and platforms would be advantageous VMware, Nutanix, Azure Cloud Platform, AIX/Unix, Lync, Exchange Server and Veritas Backup products.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining all manners of server hardware and associated network equipment, including SCSI, RAID, and I/O topology.
  • Experience with server performance tuning and monitoring tools.
  • Working technical knowledge of scripting code using PowerShell, common Linux shells, and any popular orchestration/automation scripting tools.
  • General knowledge of storage technologies such as SAN or NAS, as well as Active Directory/Global Catalogue.
  • Familiarity with financial sector instruments, laws, regulations, ethics and professional jargon.
