Senior Accounts Officer

JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Accounts Officer is responsible for providing financial and administrative services in order to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial and administrative operations. The Senior Accounts Officer must comply with established accounting policies and procedures.

The Senior accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The ideal candidate has also experience collaborating with a team of accountants and junior accountants.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains and balances related party accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring related party accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries.
  • Summarizes financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements.
  • Completes external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors. Meet with external auditors and assist in expediting the process.
  • Avoids legal challenges by complying with legal requirements.
  • Detect errors and suggest ways to improve efficiency and spending
  • Secures financial information by completing database backups.
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Examine and analyze financial statements and accounting records to ensure they are accurate and comply with regulations
  • Conduct and/ or review monthly and quarterly reconciliation of multiple balance sheet and bank accounts
  • Preparation of monthly management accounts.
  • Preparation of monthly regional campus accounts.
  • Maintenance of fixed assets register and safeguarding of the organizations fixed assets.
  • Preparation of Annual Budget
  • Preparation of Monthly and Quarterly Forecast
  • Any other duties to meet the exigencies of the service.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POST

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant
  • ACCA/ CPA level 2
  • A minimum of five (5) years experience in related field
  • Hands-on experience with accounting software packages, eg ACCPAC.

COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The position will require –

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures
  • In-depth understanding of International Financial Reporting Standard (IFRS)
  • Familiarity with financial accounting statements
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process

Skills and Abilities

  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Be Proficient with Microsoft office systems.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and judgment.
  • Computer literacy in accounting software.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
