JOB SUMMARY         

Using training and technical skills to provide support to Concrete and Block Manufacturing as well as Quarrying Operations.

Responsible for performing a variety of routine materials testing work, in accordance with established operating guidelines and procedures, both in the field and laboratory.

 

SKILL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certificate/Diploma in Civil Engineering or 5-10 years’ experience in the field
  • Degree or higher qualification in science or associated area
  • Concrete Technology Training would be asset
  • Computer Literacy in Microsoft EXCEL and WORD

 

LEARNED DISCIPLINES, SPECIALIZED TECHNIQUES AND SKILLS

  • Customer service oriented
  • The ability to work with minimal supervision
  • The ability to work with a team
  • Use of materials testing equipment such as the Nuclear-Densimeter, penetrometer (for mortar testing), moisture kit, and sand cone equipment.
  • Valid and clean Barbados light-good vehicle license.

 

EFFORT

PHYSICAL DEMAND

  • Reviews the work products of others to ensure compliance with specifications and guidelines
  • Inspects, monitors and evaluates information and work-related conditions, (examples: materials qualifications and placement of aggregate, concrete, ect.), to determine compliance with standards and guidelines.
  • Lifting and handling of heavy or large objects.

 

MENTAL DEMAND

  • Plans and organizes own work schedule with Supervisor.  Prioritizes field sampling and testing work.  Coordinates sampling and testing with others, contractors, suppliers, supervisors, etc.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Concrete & Block Manufacturing Plants, Quarry. varied conditions on construction sites

 

MACHINE AND EQUIPMENT USED

  • Standard office equipment
  • Laboratory equipment
  • Motor vehicle such as truck or van
  • Hand tools such as hammers, shovels, etc.

 

 

WORKING HOURS

  • 8 hours per day

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES –:

  1. To perform laboratory testing on concrete and blocks and concreting materials using (BS/EN-ASTM) standards as follows:
    1. Sampling and making of concrete specimens in house and on site.
    2. Sampling and testing of aggregates; coarse and fine.
    3. Moisture testing on aggregates.
    4. Compressive testing on concrete specimens based on testing regime.
    5. Proper labelling and storage of concrete and block specimens after de-molding.
    6. Completing and updating compressive strength folder on the computer.
    7. Completing and updating aggregate gradations on the computer.
    8. Maintenance, cleaning and upkeep of lab equipment, plant and environs.
    9. Proper filing and upkeep of files.
    10. Responsible for operating and maintaining different test equipment and instruments used for testing, is in keeping with industry standards.
    11. Responsible for writing reports and providing feedback to management.
    12. Responsible  for managing the data base by correctly entering test results associated with the tests conducted
    13. Responsible for management of the company’s lab, including overseeing the proper curing, storage and testing of the concrete specimens
    14. To assist with providing technical support to the concrete batch plant
    15. Assist in conducting random spot checks, perform slump checks on concrete mixer trucks during daily production.
    16. Inspection of concrete mixer trucks based on schedule.
    17. Monitoring of aggregate stockpiles ensuring that there is no contamination and that all aggregates are placed in the designated locations.
    18. To assist with the visiting of the Quarry as needed and when required for sampling and retrieving aggregates for testing at the quarry and other sites.
