The Payroll Officer is responsible for the maintenance of payroll systems for employees, preparation of payrolls and related documents; Payroll Deduction Schedules for beneficiaries; Audit Schedules; Salaries Journal; Motor Vehicle Insurance Prepaid Facility; other related payroll activities.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Ascertains and maintains knowledge of the Commission’s financial and accounting policies, processes, standards and procedures for efficient and effective payroll management;
  • Prepares computerized monthly and fortnightly payroll – process data and verifies accuracy;
  • Applies relevant payroll adjustments and deductions;
  • Prepares cash management system file for transfers to commercial bank with net pay data for employees for lodgement to their bank accounts;
  • Makes payments for payroll deductions to the various organizations and prepares vouchers for statutory and non-statutory deduction payments;
  • Validates changes/updates on accounts of existing and new employees according to District Locations;
  • Produces payroll report at the end of each year for Annual Returns;
  • Prepares and submits reports on payroll processing for the categories of employees assigned as required;
  • Reviews Payroll systems regularly with a view to determining and recommending any changes deemed necessary.

 

Minimum Requirements for the Position:

  • Associate Degree or it’s equivalent in Accounting, or a related field of study;
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ working experience in payroll accounting including processing payroll taxes;
  • Knowledge of Government payroll administration;
  • Proficiency with Accounting software;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Aptitude for learning and development.
