The Optical Laboratory Assistant works closely with the Laboratory Technicians and Supplies Assistant but reports directly to the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager.

Position Description

The Optical Laboratory Assistant works closely with the Laboratory Technicians and Supplies Assistant but reports directly to the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager. The Optical Lab Assistant ensures efficiency in all areas assigned and ensures that sufficient stock is available at all times. The Optical Lab Assistant contributes extensively to the overall success of the department and sales of all branches, by providing exceptional support to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Receiving and tagging all frames and cases on Acuitas.
  • Sorting and transferring all frames to the other branches.
  • Overseeing quality control throughout the transfer process and assisting in organization of goods in the department.
  • Assist with the fitting up of glasses
  • Updating eye drops in the systems by using First in, First out (FIFO) method.
  • Conducting Optical Supplies (OS) inventory count and sort goods, receive items on system within reasonable timeline and /or as required.
  • Assisting with ordering and distributions of monthly consumables to all locations.
  • Checking and submitting invoices to the accounts department for payment.
  • Updating the Supply Chain Manager on the status of goods and tasks assigned.
  • Strong ability to work independently.
  • Having a strong good communication and interpersonal relationship towards all staff and managers.
  • Demonstrate overall supervision and responsibility for the work of the Optical Laboratory.
  • Daily demonstrates examples of teamwork to other staff members working in the laboratory.
  • Running other work related errands when the needs arises.

  • Demonstration of excellent technical skills; neat handwriting, skilled in charting, easily able to learn optometric software; 
  • Good working knowledge of optical equipment; 
  • Demonstration of good skills in problem-solving and troubleshooting.

Education and Experience

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Vocational training an asset
  • 2+ Years in a similar capacity.
  • Optical terminology and or previous optical experience preferred.

Work Environment

  • While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is exposed to an office environment with a fairly quiet noise level, while interacting with a broad age-range of patients, clientele (infants to senior adults), and staff members.
