The Operational Technology Manager’s role is to lead, execute and maintain all technology integrations and projects related to the process network.

Job Summary

The Operational Technology Manager’s role is to lead, execute and maintain all technology integrations and projects related to the process network. This includes managing the IT staff responsible for monitoring and diagnosing any issues and working closely with the E&M team to resolve them quickly and safely. The Operational Technology Manager will also work closely with the Head of Technology and decision makers in other departments to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions (best in class) for all aspects of the organization.  

Key Duties & Responsibilities:                     

Ensures compliance of direct reports and adheres to all company policies, procedures, rules, regulations and statutory requirements to establish and maintain a productive, safe and amenable working environment.  

  • Participates and engages direct reports and peers in organizational HSE&Q initiatives while seeking to consistently improve HSE&Q in the workplace. 
  • Coordinates and ensures capital and operational projects as well as routine work activities are conducted safely, within budget, within established timeframes, required quality and in accordance with good governance, procurement policies and procedures. 
  • Assists with or coordinates the inputs for the plant(s)/department’s annual budget within stipulated timelines. 
  • Champions an environment that facilitates training, development and continuous learning by identifying training needs, recommending appropriate interventions and evaluating their effectiveness. 

Strategy and Planning 

  • Leads IT department operational technology planning and projects. They will be responsible for organizing and negotiating the allocation of IT and E&M resources. 
  • Work with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology and process implementations. 
  • Ensure the efficient utilization of IT and OT resources – including personnel and equipment – across the organization. 
  • Introduces new and emerging technologies to the group from both Corporate Infrastructure and Operational Technology standpoints.  
  • Oversee all reports and documentation related to operational technology activities. 
  • Develops, Leads, and reports on all auditing activities between OT and IT.  
  • Develop maintenance schedules for network infrastructure and operational technology equipment alongside external and internal teams as required.  
  • Conduct system feasibility studies and testing. 
  • Develop and implement all functional policies and procedures alongside the E&M team for all operational technology activities.  

Acquisition and Development 

  • Manages the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of integrated IT and OT systems. 
  • Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for integrated IT and OT spending and initiatives. 
  • Approves purchase of equipment, software related tools and supplies to meet the requirements of the business in line with the current portfolio.  
  • Analyzes existing operations and make recommendations for the improvement and growth of the integrated infrastructure and OT systems.  
  • Conducts research and remains current with the latest technologies and solutions in support of procurement efforts. 
  • Develop requests for proposal. 

Operational Management 

  • Practices asset management for IT hardware, software, and equipment in relation to current portfolio. 
  • Manages E&M and OT staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions. 
  • Establishes and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent IT activities. 
  • Oversees operational technology related projects and project portfolios. 
  • Assists in the provisioning of end-user services, including help desk and technical support  

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Master’s in business administration 
  • Undergraduate degree in the field of Computer science or Information Systems or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years experience in operational technology and plant systems (DCS and SIS) at a senior level. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience at the managerial level.
  • Proven experience in IT and OT infrastructure planning and development

  • Server and networking infrastructure environments. 
  • Software Development methodologies.

  • Comprehensive understanding of business processes.

  • In-depth knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. 
  • Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.

  • Ability to conduct and direct research into IT/OT issues and products as required.
