Is responsible for the co-ordination and management of day to day operations and quality patient care.

  • Assume responsibility for personal and professional development of self and others in the Department, enhancing performance, to deliver departmental objectives.
  • Adhere at all times to the department’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Identify situations which may be detrimental to health and well being of patients and act to rectify the situation.
  • Ensure care is accurately documented.
  • Initiate and take part in Clinical Audits within the department.
  • Undertake Risk Assessments when required; identify and put actions in place to reduce risk. Escalate as appropriate.
  • Participate in promoting innovative practice within the Department.
  • Review, as delegated by Lead Nurse, policies and protocols to ensure best and up-to-date practice is maintained.
  • Initiate and lead appropriate training and development activities and teaching programs within the Department, and participate in the induction of new staff. Promote commitment to continuous education, development and improvement.
  • Assist in the investigation of complaints/clinical incidents as necessary.
  • Participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to achieve set objectives.
  •  Ensure all mistakes, complaints and incidents/near misses, as well as successes, are correctly reported, to improve performance and the level of customer
  • Assist and participate in Administrative running of the Department – attending meetings as required.
  • Take an active role in the development of the team and individuals.

Develop and use cannulation/venepuncture skills and perform 12 lead ECG’s as appropriate
