New Product Development Officer

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

The New Product Development Officer will support the New Product Development (NPD) Department with blend development, documentation, compliance to ISO 9001, 14001, FSSC 22000, research and development, quality control, and team collaboration.

 

KEY ACCOUTABILITIES:

  1. Ensures product compliance by meeting all spirits and food & beverage regulatory requirements for export countries.
  2. Participates in cross-functional teams to execute product development plan.
  3. Accurately maintain records of liquid evaluations and assessment of results for the department.
  4. Ensures approval of bulk requests is adhered to as per the bulk request liquid approval procedure.
  5. Reviews product specifications and customer requirements for product fact sheets.
  6. Participates in laboratory and blending research projects as defined by the NPD manager.
  7. Research and monitors industry technological developments for innovation.
  8. Ensures compliance to ISO quality and environmental management, and Food Safety Systems, not limited to stability testing of products, substantiations of ingredient and product claims, legal limits of allergens/chemicals/preservatives for liquid compliance to market standards.
  9. Responsible for executing the required administrative actions as per Procurement and Disposal of Assets Policy.
  10. Monitors and evaluates the maturation processes of aged rums using analytical and sensory techniques.
  11. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
  12. Conducts site visits for supplier and co-packer audits with relevant reporting.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry/ chemistry & management/food science & technology/Biochemistry, or similar discipline.
  • A Postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Food Science & Technology, or related discipline is an asset.
  • Three years’ working experience QA/QC/R&D in a food and beverage manufacturing industry.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and utilization for basic transactions for the department – e.g. blend recipes, stock checks and purchasing requisitions.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES:

  1. Resilient, self- motivated, ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple NPD projects and respond to numerous requests.
  2. Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  3. In-depth understanding of rum aging, blending techniques, and sensory evaluation.
  4. Ability to use analytical tools (GC, GC-MS, Alcolyzer) and sensory analysis to assess spirit quality.
  5. A passion for creating unique flavour profiles and experimenting with different spirit combinations.
  6. Meticulous attention to detail to ensure consistency and quality in rum blends.
  7. Statistical and trend analysis with excellent organizational and reporting abilities.
  8. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other necessary computer programs e.g. SAP.
  9. Working knowledge of ISO 14001, 9001, 17025, and FSSC 22000 requirements.

 

RELATIONSHIPS

  • Professional relationships with key stakeholders (Blending, Quality, Marketing, Procurement, Distillery Operations, Export Development, Bulk Export Clients, Blending Ingredient Suppliers, Copackers and Instrument Suppliers).
