The Motorway Patrol Officer (MPO) has a dual role in ensuring safety on the motorway by means
of constant monitoring and is also responsible for engaging in the general maintenance of the
Motorway.
JOB SUMMARY
The Motorway Patrol Officer (MPO) has a dual role in ensuring safety on the motorway by means of constant monitoring and is also responsible for engaging in the general maintenance of the Motorway. The Motorway Patrol Officer must respond to motor vehicle accidents, assist with removing disabled vehicles, debris, and other impediments to the free flow of traffic. They are required to execute different forms of traffic management in the event of an accident or breakdown, obtaining detailed information of an abnormal event and providing assistance with re-establishing the flow of traffic. The MPO is required to submit brief, yet useful information to the Toll and Safety Supervisor at the Management Center on current situations on the motorway.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
Patroling Duties
▪ To detect and prevent breaches of the Toll Road Act.
▪ To act as the First Responder to emergencies (such as natural disasters, breakdowns, motor vehicle accidents, etc.) on the highway.
▪ Remove debris from the accident site after clearance is given from the relevant authority.
Implements the necessary signage, cones etc. and safety measures on the motorway during special events and ensure re-establishment of traffic.
▪ Liaise with the Toll and Safety Supervisor (TSS) at Management center on events on the motorway.
▪ Advises the Control Center of the launching of safety operations and or precautions.
▪ Identify and reports any infrastructure damages and security breaches.
▪ Complete JNSHC Motorway Accident/Incident Detail Report upon the occurrence of an accident/accident.
▪ Capture photographic evidence of accident/incident scene and supporting documents.
Maintenance Duties
▪ Conducts maintenance activities as directed by the AME/Maintenance Engineer.
▪ Monitors traffic management by sub-contracting companies along the highway, and makes the necessary adjustments as directed.
▪ Removal of debris and road kills observed on the motorway and in the drains (such as rocks in the v-drain or bottles in the median drain from assigned zone, garbage, and on the hard shoulders or side lanes as a means of preventing potential blockage.
▪ Does minor maintenance and/or repair of fence breeches.
▪ Cleaning of road surface of minor spills with small tools.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
▪ Observe and report missing Fence, structures from the motorway and any issues with the road surface.
▪ Any other duties and responsibilities within the scope of the work to be performed as directed or authorized.
▪ Observe and report activities by advertising company contractors being carried out along the highway.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
▪ Secondary level education.
▪ Holder of a valid driver’s license for over 5 years with laden weight at least 3000 kgs.
▪ First Aid Training
▪ Certification in Occupational Health and Safety would be an asset
SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
• Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Basic report writing skills and excellent driving skills.
