MEDICAL DIRECTOR DESIGNATE


POSITION SUMMARY-OVERVIEW

The Medical Director Designate will report directly to the Medical Director and will be responsible for supporting clinical leadership and administration within the organization. This role involves stepping in to perform the duties of the Medical Director during times of absence, with emphasis on the day-to-day operations during such periods.

SPECIFIC TASKS OR DUTIES

  • Clinical Leadership and Support
    • Assist in the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures.
    • Co-develop methods to monitor provider adherence to medical guidelines and protocols in cooperation with the other medical professionals within the NHIB.
    • Support the Medical director with compliance to regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Coordinate and manage clinical schedules and ensure adequate staffing levels.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records.
    • Assist in budgeting and resource allocation for clinical departments.
    • Support the Medical Director in analysing the healthcare needs of the population
    • Manage the procurement unit, monitoring and exploring the availability and quality in the market of medical service providers. Responsible for contract negotiations and contract management.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Monitor and evaluate clinical performance and outcomes of providers.
    • Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
    • Conduct regular audits and provide feedback to the Medical Director
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Act as a liaison between health care providers and NHIB.
    • Foster a collaborative environment among healthcare providers.
    • Address patient complaints and concerns promptly and effectively, including appeals to the Board and the Appeal Tribunal
  • Responsibilities When Replacing the Medical Director
    • Operational Management
      • Ensure seamless continuity of all operational services, including providing input for the quarterly reports.
      • Address immediate operational issues and make day-to-day decisions.
      • Coordinate with department heads to maintain service delivery standards.
    • Administrative Oversight
      • Manage proper documentation and reporting requirements.
      • Handle urgent administrative tasks and liaise with external agencies as necessary.
      • Perform on call duties.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Medical degree (MD or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, including supervisory roles.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency in clinical governance and quality assurance processes.
  • Experience with health insurance operations such as member of a medical review panel will be an asset.

 

REQUIRED EXPERTISE/SKILLS

  • Experience in a healthcare management or administrative role.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation standards.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Negotiating experience
