Mechanical Technician

The successful candidate will be responsible for troubleshooting and repairing mobile equipment and critical fixed plant mechanical infrastructure to maintain the highest levels of equipment availability and reliability.

Main Responsibilities include:

• Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, install and test mechanical systems and equipment in accordance with standard craft practice, procedures and equipment specifications.  
• Inspect, troubleshoot and assess the condition of mechanical equipment and components; report on possible issues and corrective action.
• Monitor equipment using diagnostics skills, tools/technologies to detect deviations from normal operating conditions and recommend corrective action.

• Check equipment being overhauledMe or repaired; identify defects, record and compare condition with standard.
• Repair equipment in accordance with prescribed procedures and practices.
• Develop basic plans for assigned work in consultation with supervisor.
• Collaborate with other craftsmen and operating personnel in carrying out maintenance activities.
• Participate in Reliability-Centred Maintenance activities inclusive of gathering Condition Monitoring data, assessing equipment condition and risks of failure and recommending mitigation actions to maximize equipment accuracy, uptime and efficiency. 
• Conduct preventive maintenance programmes and keep maintenance records.
• Identify and order parts and mechanical components subject to the requisite approvals

Required Competencies:

• Demonstrated ability to solve complex maintenance problems and sound understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance processes.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze mechanical/hydraulic systems and their interaction with associated electrical systems and associated equipment.
• Ability to read technical documents, drawings and blueprints
• Ability to prioritize across multiple jobs.
• Excellent troubleshooting and condition monitoring techniques.
• Proficiency with PC-based software applications including mobile equipment
• Ability to properly carry out precision alignment of gears or direct coupled shafts using proper tools to specified tolerances.
• Knowledge of engineering standards
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams

Qualifications and Experience:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Specific training in plant machinery and maintenance
• A minimum of THREE (3) years experience in a similar capacity in a manufacturing environment
