To assist with the repairing and maintenance of machinery, equipment, physical structure, plumbing, welding and industrial electrical systems, using hand tools and power tools.

  • Cleans and lubricates machine parts, such as shafts, pulleys, gears and bearings, using rags, brushes, grease guns and oilcan.
  • Assist in the replacement or repair of machine belts/chains.
  • Remove dust, dirt, grease and waste material from buildings and equipment.
  • Paints machines or equipment to prevent corrosion.
  • Assist with equipment installation or removal processes.
  • May under the supervision of a mechanic connect wires to motors, fixtures and other electrical equipment, and replaces switches and fuses.
  • May assist in bending, cutting, and threading pipe for the installation of industrial piping.
  • Cuts out and joins parts for workable, benches, shelves and other furnishings, using power tools and hand tools. Making of wooden delivery boxes for shipping parts.
  • Patches or replaces plaster or plasterboard and paints walls, ceiling, floors and trim of the building.
  • Assist with repairs to doors, locks and windows.
  • Clears clogged drains and service water baths, tanks, chillers, and cooling towers and replaces plumbing fixtures.
  • Assist in testing fire sprinkler systems.
  • Will be required to operate welding machines to repair or join metal parts or fabricate new parts with supervision using ARC and gas welding techniques.
  • Will be required to record or enter data onto forms or into the computer system.
  • Operate forklifts and cranes.
  • Will be required to drive a company truck to pick up parts and supplies.
  • Must be able to switch work hours based on department needs.
  • May operate power equipment, such as pneumatic tools, saws, drills, sanders and other items.
  • Demonstrated ability to lift 50 pounds and push/pull 200 pounds.
  • Maintains pertinent department records.
  • Assist with minor plumbing work.
  • Assists in monthly/annual stock-taking as needed.
  • Promotes safety awareness and the development of a Safety Culture within the company.
  • Liaises with external customers/contractors/suppliers as and when necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

q  5 CXC O’Level

q  National Journeyman Certificate or equivalent

q  Level 3 Welding Certification

q  Minimum 3 years in a similar position
