Mechanical Engineering Manager

Main Purpose of Job:

The Mechanical Engineering Manager will assume a leadership role within the mechanical team, emphasizing the critical responsibility of designing comprehensive plans to guide operations. This involves actively engaging with and extracting valuable facts and data from the collaborative efforts of the team members. By leveraging the PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) methodology, the individual will not only oversee the execution of these plans but also play a pivotal role in ensuring that the actions taken are informed by accurate and relevant information. He/She must be able to optimize mechanical systems in Distillery, WRRAD, Blending, Aging, Chaguaramas Port Facility, Bottling, and Forklift Maintenance. The candidate's ability to harness technical expertise and foster collaboration is key to achieving efficient and successful outcomes in our manufacturing processes.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Engineering Leadership:

  • Develop and implement engineering work plans in line with company objectives.
  •  Develop and implement work plan to improve Teambuilding and High Morale for staff.
  • Develop training plan for mechanical staff.
  • Develop succession plan for key mechanical positions.

2. Project Management:

  • Provide technical support for mechanical engineering projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, to the required safety and quality standards.
  • Coordinate mechanical teams for efficient project execution.

3. Design and Development:

  • Manage and participate in the design, development, and testing of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Manage MOC register for any mechanical changes/new design in all
  • Operational areas.
  • Implement innovative solutions for continuous improvement of mechanical systems in all Operational areas.

4. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Provide technical leadership in troubleshooting and resolving complex mechanical issues in manufacturing processes
  • Develop and implement maintenance work plan to ensure high reliability and efficiency of mechanical equipment (including PM review and development).
  • Develop and implement plan to keep mechanical parts available on stock to maintain high equipment availability, including reorder points of Max and Min.

5.  Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure all mechanical designs and processes comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated with the latest developments in mechanical engineering and manufacturing technologies.

6. Budget and Resource Management:

  • Prepare and manage the budget for all mechanical engineering requirements in Operational areas.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet project and departmental objectives.

 7. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with other departments to align engineering projects with overall business strategy.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, both within and outside the organization.
  • Develop and routinely update a catalog of external suppliers with proven capabilities and identified individuals to assist the plant for training and field assistance. 

 

Required Qualifications/Experience/Competencies/Attributes:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong experience in a manufacturing environment, with rotating equipment, machine shop works, welding, piping and fabrication.
  • Proficient in mechanical engineering operating and design principles.
  • Proficient and experienced in maintenance strategies (CM, PM, PDM).
  • Proficient and experienced in CMMS, preferably SAP.
  • Strong planning and execution of project-related works.
  • Experience with maintenance of forklifts, hoists, lifting and hydraulic systems.
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience managing in a unionized environment, including staff negotiations and conflict resolution.
  • This role involves working in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Occasional travel may be required for project oversight, training, or professional development purposes.
  • Any equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
