About DBJ:

The DBJ is a government-owned development finance institution with a mission to drive economic development in Jamaica by providing diverse financial products and services including loans, grants, equity and venture capital investments, guarantees, technical assistance and brokering public private partnership opportuniuties. The DBJ works with the government, development partners and multi-laterals to innovate and source funding such as the exciting Blue-Green funds (up to USD 500 million) which will offer the DBJ an opportunity to pivot to much larger scale over the next 5 years to help catalyze climate finance to meet adaptation and mitigation needs.                                                                                                                                                                              

About the Role

As the Managing Director, you'll be at the helm of a dynamic team of 150 employees at a time when the DBJ is on a growth trajectory, likely to double its size with the introduction of the Blue-Green funds.  You will work closely with the Board of Directors to develop a clear vision and strategic plan to take the DBJ to the next level.  Key Responsibilities include:                                                                                         

  • Strategic and Operational Leadership: Oversee the organization's strategic planning process, corporate plan and budgets, ensuring a clear path forward.
  • Financial Stewardship: Drive financial performance, increase revenues, and manage risks effectively, ensuring the adequacy and soundness of the Bank's financial structure.
  • Management and Growth of Funds: Establish and manage a framework for funds under DBJ’s stewardship e.g establish the new ‘Blue Green Facility’ and other significant funds.
  • Talent Development: Leading a talent stategy to foster a high-performing culture, develop talent, and inspire the team towards excellence and succession.
  • Client Focus: Build strong relationships with clients, intermediaries and multi-laterals, delivering exceptional service, solutions and partnerships.
  • Innovation: Embrace trends and technology to drive growth and offer innovative products and services to a diverse client base.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the organization in the community, building strong partnerships and advocating for industry best practices.

About the Person: 

  • Masters in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or equivalent with emphasis on Development Banking. 
  • Project Management certification and experience.
  • Knowledge of Investment Banking products, services and processes.
  • Ten (10) years’ related work experience in Development or Investment Banking at the senior executive level (CEO experience will be prioritized). 
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors providing professional, strategic and accurate advice. 
  • Proven track record in leading teams of professionals and driving successful outcomes in a growth context.
  • Highly organized, results-driven and reliable with a track record for optimizing talent.
  • Strong financial acumen and critical thinking skills.
  • Impeccable communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A passion for innovation and technology and a commitment to excellence.
