Machine Operator

Main Purpose of Job:

The Machine Operator is responsible for operating machines assigned with emphasis on quality awareness of products and raw materials and ensuring that machines are free of debris.

Key Accountabilities:

• Operates and makes minor adjustments to any machine on the bottling lines which the incumbent has been trained on.
• Ensures that machines are correctly adjusted for the particular product to be bottled.
• Ensures that all excessive grease from machine is removed before bottling.
• Ensures that the correct material (cartons, bottles, labels, caps, etc.) for products are used on machines and ensures that the date is on the bottle. Also ensures that the colour and strength of the product is approved by the laboratory technician.
• Checks the correct type of glue is used and ensures a good supply.
• Communicates with supervisor or production technician to confirm changes of product so that materials can be monitored.
• Informs supervisor if materials are low within a reasonable time frame.
• Monitors air supply during bottling.
• Checks that bottles being discharged from assigned machine are acceptable and ensures that unacceptable products are removed and reworked.
• Selects and ensures that the correct amount and pattern of cases to be palletized are on the pallet.
• Cleans the assigned machine at the end of the day and assists in keeping the factory hygienically clean and clear and free of all broken bottles and debris.
• Trains General Workers on assigned machines, when necessary.
• Responsible for any aspect of the production line if not assigned to a machine e.g. rework, making up cartons, etc.
• Assists Maintenance with changeovers, when necessary and under supervision.
• When operating the pump room, ensures the correct products are received and bottled, along with a good supply. Maintains cleanliness of tanks and relevant records for cleaning.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Minimum of three (3) O Level passes including English Language and Mathematics.
• Either accreditation in a mechanical or electrical field, or three (3) years related experience.

Required Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

• Basic Mechanical skills Re: strong visual skills, manual dexterity in order to make adjustment to machines.
• General knowledge of safety practices and Quality Control.
• Three (3) years working knowledge of bottling line machinery and equipment.

• Any equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.
