The Make Ready Specialist leads in the execution of all Make Ready activities to support reliably and efficiently to deliver planned preparations for production, while ensuring compliance with defined standards regarding employee safety, food safety and product quality.

Job Responsibilities 

  • To function as the subject matter expert in the execution of CIP/COP, environmental cleaning and Mixing operations to effectively support coaching and knowledge transfer to new employees and others to enable competency development.
  • To guarantee the safety of every production employee during the execution of production-related activities, by leading the identification and elimination of operational safety hazards as well as by ensuring every employee’s adherence to defined Health & Safety procedures and work instructions. 
  • To identify, in conjunction with the Safety & Sustainability Officer, immediate and longer-term solutions for identified hazards and to enlist the support of necessary personnel for timely implementation of the solutions. 
  • To communicate to the Production Manager any observed occasions of disrespect which negatively affects another employee or the operation’s productivity, so as to enable coaching and performance management. 
  • To support the execution of any reward and recognition programs which are geared toward the improvement of employee morale. 

            To support Company objectives’ activities including:

  • Adherence to internal Food Safety Standards (FSSC 22000), which supports both local and export market growth.
  • Supports the Safety and Sustainability Officer with the implementation of Food Loss and Food Waste initiatives to ensure sustainable waste reduction mechanisms and compliance with food safety standards.
  • To ensure that material losses resulting from poor material handling and storage while under the custody of the production department, are minimized. 
  • To work with other Production Team Leaders and maintenance personnel in identifying and implementing solutions which prevent loss of material due to contamination. 
  • Supports product innovation and renovation initiatives by ensuring adherence to all food safety controls during the entire chain of development, execution and implementation.
  • Drives continuous improvement through lending support in formal projects and coaching of team members to develop the mindset and capability for routine identification and analysis of improvement opportunities.
  • To lead in the execution of all CIP/COP activities in a timely manner to reliably ensure on-time start of production.
  • Responsible for preparation of all chemical solutions required for CIP/COP activities as required.
  • To lead in the execution of Mixing operations as scheduled, ensuring adherence to defined formulations.
  • To ensure all mixed batches are tested and approved by Quality.
  • Responsible for ensuring all traceability information are documented accurately as required during batch preparation activities.
  • Operation of forklifts to ensure all materials are staged as required for use in production.
  • Must have the capability to execute all verification activities and pre-operational inspections for line release as required.
  • Responsible for line start-up operations which includes changeover from CIP mode to production mode, flushing as required, line adjustments, film loading, coder adjustments to enable the production of 100 quality packs of finished product for seal integrity testing for handover to production at 6am.
Qualifications and Experience 
  • Minimum 5 ‘CXC’ including English and Mathematics
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the food manufacturing environment.
