Applications open to Barbadian nationals, persons with permission to reside and work in Barbados.

 

Summary of Main Duties:

  • Prepare and assist with preparation and cooking of food items in accordance with the standards, cooking methods, portion sizes and recipes. 
  • Assist chefs, cooks and kitchen staff as needed, especially during peak times
  • Ensure that food is prepared and served in a timely and efficient manner
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation, and kitchen area.
  • Proper storage and labeling of food items
  • Monitor food inventory and notify the head chef or kitchen manager when supplies are running low
  • Uphold all food safety standards, hygiene and sanitary regulations for self, kitchen appliances, food and fridges.
  • Assist with monitoring supplies and communicate any low levels of prepped and stocked items to the Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, and Executive Chef.
  • May assist in monitoring or guiding kitchen staff, 2nd cooks, 3rd cooks and commis cooks.

 

  The ideal candidate will possess:

  • At least one-year experience in a similar role
  • Working knowledge of basic cooking techniques
  • Ability to follow recipes and prepare menu items accurately and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Experience in working as a cook or kitchen assistant in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with other kitchen staff.
  • Willingness to learn and take direction from senior cooks and chefs.
  • Flexibility to work on weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed.
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils, including knives, pans, and ovens.
  • Experience in the hospitality sector will be considered an asset.
  • An associate degree or above in culinary arts will be considered an advantage.
  • A keen sense of taste and smell.
  • The foresight to anticipate, identify, and solve any problems or information in need of consideration and adjustment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, enduring various physical movements including lifting, stretching, pushing and bending.
