The Lift Plan Specialist is responsible for overseeing routine and non-routine, critical and heavy lifting/rigging operations; reviewing project lifting/rigging plans, procedures and operations on site.

Job Summary

 The Lift Plan Specialist is responsible for overseeing routine and non-routine, critical and heavy lifting/rigging operations; reviewing project lifting/rigging plans, procedures and operations on site; providing technical lifting/rigging installation support to assigned project(s) and reviewing/auditing lifting and rigging equipment in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, safety requirements, quality standards, codes specifications and schedules.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Review and authorize all lifting/rigging activities occurring onsite including routine, non-critical lifting/rigging operations, verifying adherence to Client hoisting, rigging and crane life critical procedures. 
  2. Supervise all critical and/or complex lifting/rigging operations.
  3. Assist the Project Team with lifting procedures and drawings review; provide technical support in the planning and execution of lifting/rigging activities.
  4. Ensure rigging calculations are performed and rigging is adequate for the load.
  5. Verify the weight of the load, the capacity of the crane at the given radius and the rigging configuration to ensure the load will not shift during the lift.
  6. Ensure all documentation related to the lift has been completed accurately.
  7. Performing field audits to verify the quality of rigging/lift plans to ensure safe execution of work, stopping work if necessary.
  8. Provide guidance and assist in correcting gaps associated with rigging/lift plans.
  9. Review and recommend improvements to key practices, procedures and plans ensuring effective and smooth project execution.
  10. Interfaces with various project teams and departments on resolving subject-related issues that requires effective communication, initiative, flexibility and an ability to induce collaboration.
  11. Complete job hazard reviews and risk assessments in collaboration with key stakeholders, identifying mitigations and or improvements to lifting operations.
  12.  Participates in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for Lifting Equipment failures.

 Key Competencies / Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of different types of lifting equipment/cranes on heavy lift barges, jack-up barges, land-based mobile/fixed cranes.
  • Ability to inspect lifting equipment and devices to confirm compliance with codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of international standards (e.g. LOLER, LEEA) as well as statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop lift plans.
  • Familiarity with work permit systems typical of process plant operations.
  • Full knowledge and competence to perform fitting and rigging type works as outlined.
  • Knowledge and competence in the use of the following technical documentation:

            (i)     Equipment fabrication and assembly drawings.

            (ii)    Piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).

            (iii)   Piping and pipe fittings material specifications charts.

    (iv)   Simple isometric piping drawings.

  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces (as required).
  • Ability to perform job hazard reviews and risk assessments.

 Minimum Qualification and Experience:

  • Demonstrated competence and/or competencies normally acquired over a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar discipline with field experience in lifting operations, lifting preparation (lift plans), lifting supervision and lifting equipment inspection.
  • Demonstrated experience in lifting and rigging especially in critical and heavy lifts in the oil and gas/construction industry including Greenfield, Brownfield and plant environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in the review of lifting engineering for load curves, rigging calculations etc.
  • OPITO Approved Rigger Training (Level 3) or equivalent from an accredited institution/programme recognized by the Company.
