The incumbent is required to perform professional legal work for the Gambling (Gaming and Betting) Control Commission.

Duties include appearing in court, providing legal advice and opinions, and drafting legal documents on matters involving the Commission. Depending on the assignment, the incumbent may be required to perform some or the full range of the duties of the position.

Key Responsibilities


  • Represents the Commission on matters before the courts.
  • Assists in performing court case preparation work such as preparing pre-trial briefs and draft pleadings for filing
  • Provides advice on complex legal matters
  • Conducts research, interprets laws, rules and regulations, and prepares legal opinions and briefs in complex legal matters.
  • Drafts complex documents including contracts, leases, and memorandums of agreements.
  • Assists in reviewing existing legislation, rules and regulations related to the Commission’s operations and recommending appropriate amendments.
  • Assists in vetting of applications for potential licencees.
  • Assists in the development and maintenance of an up-to-date repository of laws, judgments, contract precedents and related materials in respect of the Commission’s operations.
  • Drafts Cabinet /Ministerial Notes, memoranda, letters, and other documents on legal matters
  • Liaises with and maintains professional relationships with a wide range of external parties.
  • Interfaces with relevant governmental bodies and stakeholders.
  • Assists in sensitization sessions for the benefit of internal staff, public bodies and the general public.
  • Represents the Commission at committee meetings at external for as and when required.
  • Supports the development and implementation of policies and guidelines to support market developments.

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

  • Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) from an accredited and recognized institution.
  • Legal Education Certificate (LEC) or equivalent.
  • Admission to practice Law in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • A minimum of (4) years’ experience as a practicing Attorney-at-Law.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in providing legal advice, reviewing cases and performing duties as a practicing Attorney-at-Law.
