JOB SUMMARY

The Legal & Compliance Officer assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of a Legal, Contract Management and Compliance Framework for National Flour Mills Limited (NFM). The role is responsible for the planning and managing of the contractual aspects of a procurement project following the award of the contract, and ensures adherence to the compliance requirements of NFM to the relevant statutory bodies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists with the development of an effective legal and compliance framework for National Flour Mills Limited, provides legal, compliance and contract management support.
  • Reviews and assists with the management of NFM’s compliance to applicable legislation and the relevant statutory organisations (e.g., TTSEC, TTSE, OSHA, EMA).
  • Reviews all applicable statutory laws and regulations and assists in the development of adequate systems for compliance.
  • Ensures that all regulatory approvals remain current and appropriate to the needs of the business; prepares compliance documents as per statutory and regulatory deadlines.
  • Reviews and analyses the organisation’s activities to assess business and compliance risks, highlights and escalates areas of concern.
  • Assists with the development and educating of employees on internal policies and procedures, compliance training and protocols, and the preparation of reports and presentations.
  • Develops compliance checklists and monitors for adherence; prepares compliance reports as part of the Corporate Secretary’s monthly report.
  • Maintains and manages a database of legal documents including contracts, agreements, and the statutory and risk management Registers required by the Companies Act.
  • Serves as the liaison for regulatory bodies and the primary contact for all matters concerning contracts.
  • Drafts the terms of agreement in business contracts and agreements; maintains contracts and is responsible for close-out, extension and renewal based on instructions.
  • Complies with all other contract management requirements of the Procurement Legislation.
  • Performs various general administrative duties (e.g., file creation, filing, and maintenance of ongoing administrative projects).
  • Performs other duties as required by the job function.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB)
  • A minimum of five (5) years working experience in a contract management and compliance role
  • Work experience in a legal environment, or as a legal practitioner will be an asset
  • Strong work experience in corporate and commercial matters
  • Strong working knowledge of contract terms and contract administration/management process
  • Strong analytical skills and business acumen with keen attention to detail 
  • Above average report writing, research and analytical skills
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Good understanding of compliance in a manufacturing environment.
  • High level of professionalism, confidentiality and trustworthiness is essential
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision, and meet strict deadlines
    • Proficient in MS Office applications
    • Knowledge of food safety principles
