Role Overview

The Junior Operator will play a key role in supporting the operational activities of the trading and shipping team. This role involves ensuring the smooth and efficient handling of cargo movements, documentation, and communication with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a proactive individual who is a team player, has excellent organizational skills, and can work in a fast-paced environment.

 

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the coordination of cargo movements, including scheduling, loading, and discharging operations
  • Ensure timely nomination of vessels following contract terms and operational timelines.
  • Monitor vessel schedules and ensure timely updates such as estimated arrival and departure times.
  • Track and report on the status of shipments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company procedures.
  • Assist in preparing voyage instructions and ensuring they are accurately communicated to all relevant parties.
  • Monitor demurrage and claims processes, including collecting necessary documentation and supporting Senior Operators.
  • Prepare and verify shipping documents, including Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, and cargo manifests.
  • Ensure all transactions comply with internal policies, industry standards, and local/international regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records for auditing and reporting purposes.
  • Communicate with the company’s fleet of ships, the shipping agents and inspection companies to ensure smooth operations.
  • Serve as a point of contact for service providers to address queries related to ongoing operations.
  • Liaise with traders, chartering teams, and risk management teams to align operational execution with commercial objectives.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues in a timely manner, escalating to senior team members when necessary.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support to the operations team as needed.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Communications, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in operations, logistics, or a similar role in the oil and gas, shipping, or trading industry.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Basic knowledge of oil and gas trading, shipping logistics, or maritime operations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • A proactive and detail-oriented mindset committed to learning and professional growth.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
  • Fluency in English (additional languages are a plus).
  • Availability for after-hours support in case of operational emergencies.
  • Willingness to adapt to the dynamic nature of trading and shipping environments.
