The Junior Engineer is responsible for ensuring and improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability of branches and the company’s operations through the implementation of effective methods and strategies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Junior Engineer will be responsible for-:

 

  1. Improving the operational systems, processes and policies in support of the organization’s mission -- specifically, support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.
  2. Overseeing management and increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of the Tunapuna Retail Outlet, South Retail Outlet, Xclusive Lighting, Switchgear Department, I.T. Department, Showroom, Building Maintenance and Warehouse. 
  3. Cooperating with the Accounts and Human Resource Department in playing a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence.
  4. Overseeing overall operational management, planning, systems and controls.
  5. Development of individual departmental budget program.
  6. Conducting regular meetings with Departmental Heads.
  7. Supervising and coaching the management team.
  8. Driving initiatives in the management team and organizationally that contribute to long-term operational excellence.
  9. Contributing to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy as a member of the Executive Management Team.
  10. Managing time to effectively and efficiently handle follow ups and issue status communication to customers, enhance knowledge, create knowledgebase information, and engage in other activities that will increase personal effectiveness, team effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
  11. Consistently utilizing solid troubleshooting and resource utilization skills, taking the most effective and efficient route to problem identification and resolution.

 

Other Responsibilities:

 

  1. To effectively recruit, induct, lead, manage, train and develop branch Managers, supervisors and staff to agreed policies, procedures and standards.
  2. To communicate job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising and reviewing job contributions.
  3. To ensure the effective management of all managers and staff .
  4. To ensure adequate staffing levels throughout the branches
  5. To give support to staff so they have the opportunity to develop their skills in their roles and to achieve growth.
  6. To ensure that all performance issues, and other issues within the branches are addressed in an appropriate and timely manner.
  7. To promote a customer care approach within the retail business, investigating complaints or issues of poor customer care, both timely and efficiently.
  8. To maintain and develop working relationships with other MESL departments to further the organisation’s objectives, including appropriate attendance at Management Team meetings and training forums.
  9. To ensure Management appraisals are completed as required.
  10. To promote sales growth and to motivate staff to achieve this goal.
  11. To maintain, seek, utilise and analyse management information data to manage performance, seize opportunities and make informed management decisions, taking appropriate remedial action as required to reach and maintain budgeted sales and to develop and drive the business
  12. To ensure all branches are efficiently and effectively managed, visiting them regularly, and monitoring their compliance with policy, procedure and standards.
  13. To manage the warehouse operation
  14. To receive reports on stock in each location, ensuring there are adequate supplies. To ensure an effective method for stock request is done in conjunction with the Manager, and to respond to stock concerns where relevant.
  15. To Contribute operations information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; prepare and complete action plans; implement production, productivity, quality and customer-service standards; resolve problems; complete audits; identify trends.
  16. To Forecast requirements; prepare an annual expenditure budget; schedule expenditures; analyse variances; initiating corrective actions.
  17. To work with managers in developing operation systems by determining product handling and storage requirements; develop, implement, enforce and evaluate policies and procedures; Enforce and develop processes for receiving product, equipment utilization and inventory management.
  18. Analyse process workflows, employees and space requirements and equipment and shelf layouts; implement changes.
  19. Maintain safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following and enforcing standards and procedures in compliance with legal regulations
  20. Personal development by updating knowledge in participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in the companies trainings.
  21. Accomplish operations and the company mission by completing related results as needed
  22. Meet or exceed operations expectations
  23. Manage staff levels, wages, hours, contract labour to revenues
  24. Responsible for all department managers and supervisors, with review/approval responsibility for all operations employees.
  25. Run a safe, injury/accident free workplace
  26. Establish contracts, pricing and ensuring proper maintenance and serving as primary liaison with all maintenance companies/contractors. .(Pest Control ,Ac Technician ,Electrician, Plumber, Mechanic ,Fire & Alarm ,lifts, welder & building contractor)
  27. Manage relationships with key operations vendors
  28. Track maintenance vendor pricing and service levels.
  29. Review and approve all operational invoices and ensure they are submitted for payment
  30. Serve as primary point of contact when there are customer issues related to products , customer service, or accidents and mishaps at the various locations.
  31. Communicate customer issues with operations team and devise ways of improving the customer experience, including resolving problems and complaints
  32. Work closely with GM and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures and systems and to follow through with implementation.
  33. Work closely with the inventory manager and team to ensure all counts are completed and queries are sorted
  34. Communicate with all managers to ensure all processes remain compliant with OSHA and other governmental regulations.
  35. To undertake all mandatory training as required by MESL and participate in appropriate inhouse training as and when required.
  36. Maintaining strict confidentiality of all information acquired on products, staff and MESL.
  37. To undertake an appraisal and personal development review annually and through self development, continuously update and improve knowledge and competencies
  38. To take responsibility for being up to date with current policies and procedures and to adhere to these.
    1. Co-operating fully in the introduction of any new technology and new methods as appropriate.

 

To undertake any other relevant duties within the overall scope of this post as may be requested by the General Manager.

This position requires a Junior Engineer to

  • To work outside the office environment as and when required.

 Minimum Qualifications

  •  Ÿ Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • Ÿ  MBA in Business Administration would be an asset.
  • Ÿ  Five to ten (5-10) years experience in a senior management position.
  • Ÿ  Formal exposure/experience in strategic planning would be an asset.
  • Ÿ  Experience in managing people an asset.
