A leading private hospital in Negril, Jamaica, is seeking an experienced and dedicated Intensivist to join our medical team. This is a full-time position in a modern healthcare facility equipped with advanced medical technologies, offering the opportunity to deliver high-quality care in a picturesque coastal setting.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Critical Care Unit (CCU) Management:
• Provide comprehensive care to critically ill patients in the CCU, including diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring.
• Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and other advanced medical technologies.
• Perform bedside procedures such as central line placement, arterial line insertion, and endotracheal intubation.
2. Patient Stabilization and Emergency Response:
• Respond to medical emergencies within the hospital, including code blue situations.
• Collaborate with the emergency department to stabilize critically ill or injured patients before admission to the CCU.
3. Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
• Work closely with a team of physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals to ensure comprehensive, patient-centred care.
• Provide consultations and support to other departments for patients requiring critical care expertise.
4. Care Coordination and Communication:
• Communicate with patients’ families to provide updates, explain treatment plans, and offer emotional support.
• Coordinate care transitions from the CCU to other hospital departments or facilities.
5. Quality and Compliance:
• Ensure adherence to evidence-based practices, hospital policies, and local regulations for critical care.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of CCU protocols.
6. Teaching and Training:
• Mentor and provide training to medical staff, including nurses and junior doctors, on CCU procedures and critical care management.
• Participate in educational sessions to enhance the knowledge and skills of the team.
Qualifications and Requirements:
• Medical degree and board certification in Critical Care Medicine or related specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine with Critical Care subspecialty).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience managing critically ill patients in a CCU or similar setting.
• Current license to practice in Jamaica (or eligibility for registration).
• Expertise in advanced life-support technologies and critical care procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills, with a patient-focused approach.
