Information Technology Specialist

We are a small but dynamic, industry-leading Group of Companies specialising in Credit & Risk within the Financial Services Sector

The job incumbent has primary responsibility and accountability for implementing, managing, supporting, maintaining and improving the overall Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Infrastructure (all hardware, software, services) of the Company, which supports the business operations. The position holder plays a key role as the I. T. Specialist and will be required provide end user support and user training on common business applications. The incumbent will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining a robust ICT security solution to protect the Company’s data and assets.

The position holder plays a key role as the I. T. Specialist and will be required provide end user support and user training on common business applications. The incumbent will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining a robust ICT security solution to protect the Company’s data and assets.

To perform this job successfully, the job incumbent must possess sound technical knowledge in the full range of IT functions as well as a broad Company perspective in order to perform the following duties successfully:

  • Provide first and second level support to internal and external users to ensure ongoing usability of ICT systems and equipment. This includes troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, network, voice and security problems/issues.
  • Manage the IT Help Desk Ticketing System, ensuring that tickets are updated, that requests are resolved in line with assigned service levels. Analyse reports on trending user problems logged on the System to identify and correct root causes.
  • Implement, monitor and support recommended security measures to safeguard the company’s data assets against accidental or unauthorised modification, destruction, or disclosure. This includes:
    • Monitor the Company’s networks, investigating and reporting for security breaches.
    • Install firewalls, data encryption programs and other software to protect sensitive information.
  • Ensure scheduled backups are completed and implement systems to facilitate ease of recovery of the Company’s data assets in the event of a disaster or system/application failure. 
  • Ensure that the Company’s Core Business Applications and other data base management systems are properly updated and maintained (adhering to all licensing regulations) to facilitate 100% uptime.
  • Create and maintain documentation/reports on ICT systems, processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Monitor the growing demands on the ICT systems and proactively upgrade configurations and capacities to deal with usage trends.
  • Research the latest information technology trends and recommend new or enhanced technologies or solutions to improve efficiencies, add functionalities or reduce costs.
  • Manage the introduction of new technologies by ensuring user hardware and software are installed and configured in accordance with defined standards and licenses agreements. Ensure users are effectively trained and oriented in the new technologies.
  • Manage the communication associated with ICT problems and incidents, apprising users of system downtime as and when incidents occur and the expected resolution time. Provide targeted feedback on system issues that may be user specific, department specific or companywide.
  • Coordinate and schedule preventative maintenance routines for technology hardware and software.
  • Work with third party vendors to execute third party support contracts to meet key system support needs.
  • Provide support to IT Team Members, inclusive of providing technical support and guidance to facilitate the day to day execution of the team’s functions.
  • Effective supervision of direct reports through Human Resource related activities of the team to ensure growth and development to achieve department objectives and sustainability. This includes reviewing employee performance to identify strategies for gap closure and development, providing training, coaching and mentoring opportunities so that staff are best positioned to achieve the departmental objectives, and treating with all disciplinary matters including recommending appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Education & Certification

  • Associate Degree from a recognised, accredited institution. 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems would be considered an asset.
  • CompTIA A+
  • CompTIA Network+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • NSE 4  / FCP
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)
  • The following professional certifications would be considered an asset:
    • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
    • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)

Experience

  • At least three (3) years in the implementation, management, operation and support of the following technologies and infrastructure:
    • Network/Communication:
      • Local Area Network (LAN)
      • Wide Area Network (WAN)
      • Internet (Web)
    • Server and Storage
    • PBX & Voice Over IP (VoIP)
    • Server Virtualization (Microsoft & VMware)
    • Edge:
      • UTM Firewall
      • Endpoint Security (Anti-Virus/Firewall)
      • Virtual Private Network (SSL/IP Sec)
    • Software:
      • Microsoft Windows Server
      • Microsoft Windows Desktop
      • Microsoft Office Suite (O365, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Publisher, Internet Browser)
      • Microsoft SQL Server / MySQL
      • Linux Server
      • Backup and Recovery
  • Experience with being part of a Project Team and executing project tasks would be considered an asset.
