The Information Technology (IT) Officer is responsible for providing technical support to all
departments and locations of Jamaica North South highway Company (JNSHC).
JOB SUMMARY
The Information Technology (IT) Officer is responsible for providing technical support to all departments and locations of Jamaica North South highway Company (JNSHC). This role involves overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of the organization's IT systems and infrastructure, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and internal policies. The IT Officer will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive IT system.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Develop and implement an IT vision and strategy that meets the company's needs and is technically feasible with adequate IT support.
▪ Responsible for the preparation and installation of software and peripheral devices.
▪ Responsible for day-to-day operation of the IT support service, ensuring the appropriate service levels are maintained and the systems are functional and reliable.
▪ Development and delivery of the company’s IT strategy, including both day-to-day support and development work.
▪ Monitor ICT systems to ensure compliance with data protection laws.
Performs minor maintenance to equipment such as cleaning tape drives and printers.
▪ Follows procedures to ensure systems and equipment security and protect file integrity.
▪ Responsible for the diagnosis and resolution of software problems.
▪ Prepares and coordinates sending equipment out for repair.
▪ Evaluates requests for microcomputer services, develops alternate proposals, and recommends new applications.
▪ Accountable and responsible for delivering day to day IT support to all users and addressing any ongoing or recurring issues impacting the service.
▪ Testing equipment and supporting internal and external (onsite) events where IT support is required.
▪ Overall responsibility for supporting, maintaining and managing a wide range of technical
systems:
➢ Windows Server Configuration
➢ Firewall Management, Configuration, and Maintenance
➢ Configuration of LANs, WANs, & VPNs
▪ To ensure that all company’s computer network and peripheral devices are maintained in good working order.
▪ To be in support for the local day-to-day operation of the network and IT resources, including hardware, software and cabling.
▪ Diagnosing faults and carrying out minor repairs to IT equipment, demonstrating excellent customer care.
▪ To maintain internal company email user accounts for staff in accordance with the company’s policies.
▪ Supporting and maintaining records of all company-owned user technology including, laptops, software and projectors.
▪ To set up equipment for meetings, including audio and visual requirements for presentations.
▪ Providing training to all users of the company’s IT systems and services.
▪ Maintaining documentation on IT hardware, software and audio-visual equipment including digital and printed format,
ensuring the user guides and knowledgebase articles are available to users.
▪ Assists the Deputy Administrative and Human Resource Manager in updating the Policies and Procedures relevant to the IT support for the company.
▪ Assists in the development of proposals for the procurement of information systems and Services.
EDUCATION/TRAINING EXPERIENCE
▪ Tertiary level qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline.
▪ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other relevant software applications.
▪ At least one (1) year experience in the field of IT maintenance.
▪ Data Protection Certification would be an asset.
SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED
▪ Able to understand and respect the importance of confidentiality and data protection, both within and outside the workplace.
▪ Good understanding of network operating systems in a client-server networking environment.
▪ Good technical working knowledge of network and IT systems including:
➢ Microsoft Active Directory User and Group Management
➢ Knowledge of SQL, Office365, Microsoft Teams, iPads and iPad apps
➢ Desktop operating system management (Windows10)
➢ General networking hardware
➢ General networking protocols (including Wi-Fi)
▪ Experience of hardware maintenance.
▪ Experience of software installation and configuration
▪ Knowledge of data processing terminology, symbols, and methodology.
▪ Ability to operate information systems input devices.
▪ Ability to diagnose hardware and/or software problems.
▪ Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills at all levels
▪ Aptitude for problem solving.
▪ Strong attention to detail.
