HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICER

Summary of job function: The incumbent will be responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the Human Resource Department by assisting with the implementation of various Human Resource functions and initiatives in keeping with the strategic objectives of the Company.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • To support and guide Managers, Supervisors and Employees on Human Resource Management issues to ensure effective communication with all staff to maintain a consistent and transparent working relationship.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR initiatives and systems. 

  • Be actively involved in the recruitment and selection process; prepare job descriptions, post advertisements, shortlist candidates, conduct interviews, perform reference checks and manage the hiring process.

  • Organize and manage new employee orientation, onboarding and training programs.

  • Assist in the development and review of the Company’s current performance management system.

  • Administer and monitor the performance management system to ensure compliance with proper performance standards and measurements. 

  • Recommend and identify training and development programs in keeping with the needs of the employees and the objectives of the Company.

  • Monitor and address staff performance, attendance and punctuality issues in a timely and confidential manner.

  • Responsible for the execution of disciplinary action including remedial and resolution recommendations; prepare and issue disciplinary letters, follow through, suspension and termination in accordance with current Industrial Relations guidelines and laws of Trinidad and Tobago.  

  • Ensure employment policies and working conditions are in accordance with the legal requirements of Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Review Human Resource Policies and Procedures in accordance with revision timelines and provide recommendations. 

  • Provide guidance on the interpretation of HR Policies/Procedures/Code of Conduct and guide staff in the authorized channels for grievance settlements.

  • Investigate complaints, conflicts and employee relations matters to determine the validity and attend to such issues which include making recommendations for approval and attaining timely resolution of same.

  • Establish and drive employee engagement initiatives.

  • Manage and maintain accurate and complete personnel records which includes; employment details, certification and updated electronic databases.Perform any other duty as reasonably required.

  • Perform any other duty as resonably required.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BA/ Bsc. in Human Resource Management or equivalent qualification.

  • Certification in Industrial Relations would be an asset.

  • Sound knowledge of the Labour Laws of Trinidad and Tobago.

  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in a similar capacity.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of HRMS would be an asset.
