JOB TITLE:                              Health Research Officer

 

DEPARTMENT:                        National Epidemiology and Research Unit

 

MINISTRY:                             Ministry of Health and Human Services   

LOCATION:                             Grand Turk  

JOB SUMMARY:

The incumbent will assist/support the Chief of Epidemiology and Research to plan,

develop and implement epidemiologic and research programmes under the auspices of

the National Epidemiology and Research Unit (NERU) to ensure collection, analysis, and

interpretation of data about health effects and risks in TCI and disseminate this

information locally, regionally and internationally as appropriate to be utilized in

particular to promote evidence-informed decision making in health in TCI.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assists with all aspects of the conduct of essential health research for TCI.
  2. Researches and Disease surveillance activities to facilitate the measurement of health status indicators, surveillance and health service data.
  3. Manages of surveillance data to facilitate the analysis and interpretation to make recommendations regarding interventions such as implementation of prevention and control measures.
  4. Maintains Database.
  5. Prepares and disseminates of Unit/Department reports on health status indicators utilizing available epidemiological data.
  6. Prepares and disseminates of communicable disease outbreak reports to the stakeholders in a timely manner as requested during the outbreak.
  7. Data entry, analysis and interpretation of research and other health-related information about health effects and risks to inform policy and facilitate evidence informed decision making in health in TCI.
  8. Prepares of grant applications to obtain extra-mural funding for health research.
  9. Participates in meetings/workshops/conferences e.g., health research and scientific meetings at local, regional and international levels as deemed necessary by NERU Chief
  10. Reviews of death notification information and determine proper coding.
  11. Adheres to all Public Service codes, rules and regulations.
  12. Performs other relevant duties as may be assigned

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

 

A Master's degree from an accredited university in an allied health discipline with specialization, thesis, and capstone or externship experience in epidemiology or health research followed by experience detailed below.

 Experience:

This position requires the following:

  • At least two years experience in research project management, including the design, conduct, data management, analysis and interpretation of research and epidemiologic surveys.
  • Experience in working with health research projects including the design, conduct, and interpretation of population based epidemiological surveys.
  •  Experience in outbreak investigation and report

  

SALARY:

  • Grade 7: $57,438.00 per annum plus allowances
