To inspect and evaluate areas assigned to ensure compliance with established health and safety practices, procedures and legislative requirements. He/she will also develop and implement approved actions to minimize or eliminate identified risks. The candidate is required to work on a shift basis.

The candidate will be required to inspect and evaluate areas assigned to ensure compliance with established health and safety practices, procedures and legislative requirements. He/she will also develop and implement approved actions to minimize or eliminate identified risks. The candidate is required to work on a shift basis.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Conduct workplace inspections as agreed (daily, weekly, monthly) to identify hazards, exposures and general impacts.
  • Develop and implement approved intervention strategies to minimize or eliminate hazard exposures and general impacts.
  • Completion of Accident Report and Incident Investigation within 48 hours, in collaboration with relevant subject matter expert to determine most appropriate actions required to minimize or eliminate the risks.
  • Monitor contractors working within the area of your control to determine adherence to proper safety practices and procedures and take corrective action where necessary.
  • Observe the work activities and practices of all employees within the area of your control to determine compliance with safety guidelines and take immediate corrective action where appropriate.
  • Work with line managers/supervisors to perform and document Job Safety Analysis (JSA) as required.
  • Ensure that new employees receive the proper training for the job assigned to perform.
  • Encourage adherence to safety rules and guidelines using “showing” and “telling” techniques with employees who are not in compliance and escalate to Line Manager if noncompliance continues.
  • Recommend changes/updates to policies and procedures to minimize accidents/incidents.
  • Analyze accident/incidents to determine causes and to develop relevant prevention/intervention programmes.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping through a system that requires that there is a place for everything and that everything is kept in place.
  • Maintenance of department Safety Pyramid Boards and the posting of all department safety statistics on relevant noticeboards.
  • Assist with the preparation and carrying out (if necessary) of Shift Tool Box meetings.
  • Understand and adhere to the organization’s good manufacturing practices (GMPs), Food Safety and Quality requirements.
  • Actively promote, support and comply with Kiss Baking Company Limited’s established Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and industry best practices.
  • Perform any other job-related duties as directed by Supervisor/Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Diploma in Environmental Science or a related field
  • OSHA or Nebosh certification will be considered an asset
  • Two (2) years practical exposure to work involving Health & Safety in a corporate setting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and provide solutions in a timely manner
  • Proficient with MS Office to an intermediate level.
  • Excellent oral, written, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Must be solutions oriented
  • Must be able to work under pressure
