Job Summary
The General Manager leads a leadership team that directs and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Credit Union to ensure the successful achievement of strategic and operational goals as agreed upon by the Board of Directors. The General Manager ensures that the Credit Union's operations comply with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements and facilitates the implementation of decisions made by the Board of Directors, as recorded in meeting minutes.
Additionally, the General Manager is responsible for fostering a work environment that promotes employee engagement, a results-focused mindset, and a service-driven culture.
Responsibilities of the Role:
• Assist in the development of a strategic plan;
• Oversees the implementation of a strategic plan approved by the Board of Directors;
• Proposes strategies that support the delivery of financial results and the continued advancement of the vision and mission of the Credit Union;
• Guides the leadership team in the preparation of the annual operations plan to inform the operational agenda;
• Monitors the performance of the Credit Union and supports the efforts of the Manager, Finance and Administration and the Manager, Operations to ensure that the operational objectives are being met;
• Ensures the development and continuous review of a rigorous policy framework for approval by the Board of Directors to guide employees in the execution of their functions;
• Ensures the development of procedure manuals to standardize the execution of functions and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements across all of the Credit Union's branch offices;
• Coordinates with the members of the leadership team to ensure adequate preparation and timely delivery of service excellence to our members;
• Ensures that high levels of professional conduct amongst employees are demanded and observed at all times;
• Monitors the investment climate and makes appropriate recommendations to the Board of Directors for the efficient management of the Society's investment portfolio;
• Ensures the timely submission of financial and management reports to the Board of Directors;
• Oversees the implementation of decisions taken by the Board of Directors as recorded in the minutes of its meetings;
• Advises the Board of Directors on the financial and operational risks inherent in decisions on major capital expenditure;
• Makes recommendations to the Board of Directors, when necessary, for the procurement of professional services to improve operational efficiencies and the quality of service delivery to the members of the Credit Union;
• Coordinates with the Manager, Finance and Administration and the Manager, Operations to ensure the timely monitoring and appraisal of all employees;
• Ensures the preparation and execution of training and development plans to improve the competencies of the Credit Union's staff;
• Keeps abreast of changes in the legislative and regulatory requirements and advises the Board on the measures required to adjust to those changes;
• Facilitates the participation of Board and Committee members in approved events and initiatives;
• Represents the Credit Union at such national and international symposia as approved by the Board and Directors;
• Undertakes any other relevant assignments as required by the Board of Directors.
Required Education and Experience
• Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree in any of the disciplines of Business Management, Finance, or Accounting
• Professional accounting designation (ACCA, CIMA, CGA, CMA, CPA) would be an asset
• A minimum of five (5) years experience in a similar role in a financial institution
• Any preferred combination of education and experience
• A working knowledge of the Co-operative Societies Act
• Good Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
