Food Safety Lead

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To ensure food safety standards and regulatory compliance are maintained throughout the organization. Involves monitoring and auditing food safety practices, conducting training programs, ensuring proper documentation, and addressing any food safety concerns that arise in the production, handling, and distribution processes. The specific duties and expectations of the role may evolve based on company needs, industry changes and changes to applicable FSSC 22000 standards.

 

KEY ACCOUTABILITIES:

  1. Ensures compliance with all food safety laws and regulations, customer requirements and company policies.
  2. Reviews and updates all food safety related documents, procedures and records e.g. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, Threat Assessment Critical Control Points and Vulnerability Assessment Critical Control to ensure the safe production of food products.
  3. Conducts risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the food production process and develop corrective actions.
  4. Performs regular audits and inspections of food production areas, storage facilities, and transportation environments to ensure adherence to food safety standards.
  5. Leads internal audit programme, prepares internal audits reports and tracks and reports on status and closure of corrective actions taken to address non-conformances.  
  6.  Ensures document management control of all food safety related procedures, work instructions, master lists, records and forms. This will include working with designated team leads to ensure all departmental procedures are documented, registered, reviewed, approved, and supports the Group’s policies and FSSC 22000 requirements.
  7. Investigates and resolves food safety incidents, product recalls, or customer complaints related to food safety. Leads or assists in root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
  8. Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of safety inspections, audits, and compliance activities.
  9. Lead efforts in continuous improvement related to food safety and quality assurance.
  10. Develops and delivers food safety training programs for staff across all levels of the organization e.g. hygiene practices, allergen management, and food safety protocols.
  11. Prepare and submit reports to management regarding food safety issues and improvements.
  12. Supports the development and implementation of a food safety culture plan and food loss and waste plan by leading initiatives and supporting cross functional teams with implementation.
  13. Provides ongoing support and feedback to ensure the implementation of safety procedures.
  14. Recommends and implements improvements to food safety systems, procedures, and protocols.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, or a related field.
  • Certification in Food Safety (e.g., Certified Food Safety Professional (CFSP), HACCP certification, GMP, Internal Auditor Training, FSSC 22000 Training) is preferred.
  • Additional certifications such as SQF Practitioner or GFSI standards training are a plus.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in food safety or quality assurance, in FMCGs industry, food manufacturing or processing industry.
  • Experience in conducting food safety audits, inspections, and compliance documentation is essential.
  • Knowledge of international food safety standards (e.g., ISO 22000, BRC, FSSC 22000).

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES:

  1. Strong knowledge of food safety regulations, FSSC 22200 requirements, HACCP principles, GMPs, foodborne pathogens, allergen control and risk management principles.
  2. Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  3. Statistical and trend analysis with excellent organizational and reporting abilities.
  4. Ability to lead training sessions and communicate complex food safety information effectively
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other necessary computer programs e.g. SAP, auditing software
  6. Meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  7. Resilient, self- motivated, ability to work at a fast pace and to prioritize multiple projects and respond to numerous requests.
  8. Proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
